In other news my doctor friend hasn't taken any leave in two years. He's now being told to use it or lose it. He asked to be able to defer some of it but was told "no". So he's going to use it. "But that would mean we don't have any cover". NHS management has reverted to the mean (in both senses of the word) . I can see this being a widespread problem...

Believe it or not, Shenzhen has started easing lockdown partially in less than a week after mass testing. Some districts have achieved dynamic zero social clearance, Yantian, Guangming and other districts have not reported new cases for many consecutive days, Pingshan, Dapeng, Shenzhen and other districts have maintained a "zero epidemic" state since the Spring Festival. youtu.be/o44QvzrjfgI

Remember the gaussian distribution or bell curve... We tend to focus on outliers: the person who self-isolated, wore masks, used hand sanitisers and still got covid or the person who doesn't care, goes out and parties, lives in a shared house were everyone had covid and still did not get it. Not really surprising...it is much more interesting to report on the unusual, e.g. the winner of the jackpot of the UK Lotto (probability 1 in 45,057,474) instead of the winner of any prize in the UK Lotto (probability 1 : 54). Personal opinion: ignore the bottom and top 5% (adjust to taste), focus on the data in the middle, and try to gauge if there is a statistically significant correlation... And always remember: correlation is no causation

Great news, I keep tested -ve and have sore throat. 🤣 My partner & I went out for a meal last week to catch up with friends. Today, they also tested negative but have runny nose. The rest of the household tested negative apart from my partner. Having her booster jab last winter couldn’t stop Covid. She is in stable condition and had unlocked the premium covid symptoms. Sore throat, stomach issue, runny nose, fever, brain fog, muscle pain.

"But that would mean we don't have any cover". NHS management has reverted to the mean (in both senses of the word) . I can see this being a widespread problem... Many Nurses in the same position. I was similar in 1999/2000 We were limited as to how much leave we could take before 1/1/2000 to get stuff ready. A promise was made that leave owed could be carried forward or payment would be made at double time. in early February I was called to a meeting with my managers manager, and told "sorry we can't let you carry extra leave forward, nor can we afford to pay you for it or your time owing. Your options are use it or lose it" I walked out of the office back to my desk called up my leave card and my time owing card and worked backwards from 31 March. I then filled in a leave request and took it to my manager. His attitude was "but I have all this work I need you to do and now you are taking leave why" so I explained the conversation with his boss and left him to sort it. The next day he came back tome and explained that for the good of the business I should not take my leave, but that I should come in and work but record it as leave taken as otherwise it would generate reports to HR. I refused and said that I would be taking my leave and time owed that I had built up at their request, and that I would not be in after the next day. I tidied everything up and setup handovers . The first day I didn't go in I get a phone call about 9:30 asking where I was I explained I was on leave as required , and was asked "but what about the work I need you to do" I explained that handovers were setup and that notes were available. The next day the phone rings again just after 9 again where are you, Same response from me I'm taking my leave the third day HR phoned and I explained the conversations to them they said that they'd been told I wasn't turning up and that i was absent without permission. after that nothing till I went back first of April, To find none of the jobs I had had been done, even those required for the new tax and financial year.

Checked in @ vaccination centre this morning. No queues at all. One desk for jabbing the under 12 and two desks for 12+. Sadly no easter freebies. Children have to ask for stickers. Furthermore, no stats showing up for the under 12s jab yet. coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

Just had/having one of the infections said to be returning with a vengeance. Yesterday morning I was very wheezy and coughing a lot. No other Covid symptoms (apart from lethargy) and a LFT was negative. Snoozed for two hours in the afternoon, felt better. This morning, I'm not at all bad, though not sure about being very energetic outside.
I had a good look at the various over-the-counter cold treatments I haven't needed for more than two years and found a couple that were still within their "do not use by" date.

Well, LFT may not show positive the first few days. False-negative is over 20%.
I tested negative on day 10+. Unlucky or some Omicron X long variant I suppose.

- Coughing, sneezing, runny nose on Friday. Tested negative with the Orient (green box) LFT
- Coughing, sneezing, runny nose on Saturday. Tested positive with the Floflex (blue box) LFT
- After a few days feeling better so test with Orient produced a very faint positive line
- Following day Floflex produced a normal positive test
I wonder if the Floflex might be more sensitive than Orient kits?

We got lurgied a few weeks ago.
Weds Eve - went out with a few friends, then meal - 8 round table. Thu AM - one of the 8 tests +ve. Sat - scratchy throat, achey (but I'd been to the gym Fri) Sun - REALLY achey. faint +ve test. Mon - other half tests strong +ve. That week - awful sore throat, day of hacking cough, lots of joint aches, tired. Me worse than her.
Following Mon (last week) - I test faint +ve, she tests strong +ve. Weds - Both test -ve.
Starting to feel more like normal today - but still tire quickly, slightly dry/sore throat.
Of the 8 around that restaurant table, only one escaped...

We had Covid late March. My wife has recovered fully, fortunately, but I've not been so lucky. It went to my chest and the smallest exertion is now leaving me breathless. Last week, a short walk uphill, which I've done regularly for years, left me draped over a railing and gasping for breath. Taking it easy since then and barely doing any exercise, which goes against the grain for me. Just hoping this lung impairment I've been left with is only temporary. Some reports suggest that's the case.... with 4, or 12, or 52 week recovery periods mentioned. My pulse oxymeter, which used to read typically 97/99, now reads 94/96 most of the time, so probably related. Even this 'milder' Omicron is still a right b*gg*r, so take care out there.
