A relative, early sixties, is immuno-compromised following an earlier serious illness and a cocktail of drugs to control it. He's had five covid vaccines to date and his wife has been shielding him as best as possible, but on Friday morning he felt unwell and tested positive for covid. He is in the vulnerable group who should be given the new antiviral medication(s) within 48 hours to ward off the worst outcomes. Encouragingly, he received a text Friday evening from the NHS, within a few hours of reporting his positive test to them. The text stated that a GP will contact him within the next 24hrs to arrange this medicine, but if nothing is heard within that timeframe, to dial 111. So far, so good... By Saturday evening, with no GP phone call , his wife rang 111 on his behalf. After a protracted discussion, she eventually managed to get the tool at the other end to understand the situation and the urgency and he arranged for a nurse to ring back. This nurse agreed that, yes, he needs the antiviral treatment, but it'll take 3-5 days to get it. His wife complained that he needs it within 48hrs to be effective. The nurse agreed, but said there's no way of getting it to him now, within that timeframe. Basically they don't care if he lives or dies. Where can he go from here? That's today's NHS. I hope they don't expect us to clap on the doorstep any time soon. 🤬 It’s not easy to hear these amazing antivirals can’t be delivered to people in need within timeframe. However, l have seen similar stories across the world. Unless these drugs were handed or stocked before covid strikes, and the real world efficacy has been observed as 60+% due to logistic issues.

But according to the linked article only as a result of 'treatment from the drug Paxlovid' (is this used in UK?).
Regarding current covid infection levels, the figures are only published weekly on a Wednesday, but last weeks figures showed a fall of around 30% in most areas.

And now the only two candidates for PM both seem to be competing for how much the Gov got it wrong regarding being overly restrictive and allowing the experts to run things. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-62664537

For those who are over 60s, would you be happy with the autumn bivalent shot working against ba.1 or wait for the government getting new bivalent booster for Ba.5 and bq.1.1 as your forth covid shot?

I'd rather everyone got whatever there is asap.
I'd like everyone who cannot be bothered to leave the country today, but beggars and riding.

There needs to be better advice concerning those who have recently had the virus.
In my case around 6 weeks and anecdotally I'd be better off waiting at least 6 months so that I have protection from then onwards. If I get the vaccine now I'd be super protected (natural immunity, triple vaxxed plus fourth vaccine now) but then in 6 months time that immunity would be dropping off.
Of course I'd rather discuss this with my GP but see the other thread about that - I'd rather not take up his time or my time messing around with 8am phone queues.
