I see that the hackers who caused the American fuel pipeline to be closed down have received a $5m ransom payment in crypto currency.
As somebody who is blissfully ignorant of these matters, are these transactions completely untracable? Is there no chance at all that somebody is going to get a knock on the door having had the ransom traced back to their laptop?
As I understand it the distributed blockchain aspect of a crypto currency like Bitcoin ensures that transaction records are essentially unimpeachable. The problem is that the unique identifiers that denote who a particular transaction takes place between can be largely (entirely, if careful?) anonymous. Add to which you have have very leaky exchanges in some jurisdictions combined with easy and cheap trading with other crypto currencies and it becomes much easier to launder than a traditional transaction (and god knows the global anti-money laundering approach is a long, long, long way from being water tight even when it comes to traditional transactions). I'm not an expert though so am happy to be corrected / have the above expanded on .

What proof do you have that Tesla have sold their BTC? They publicly stated that they have not done so. Read the news he says "may sell or has sold" Honestly and of course in my opinion he is deliberately manipulating the market, presumably to his advantage

I can't believe anybody could sink $1.5bn into any venture without researching it to the nth degree. To then feign a sudden epiphany over Bitcoin being an energy guzzler, a bolt from the blue that nobody's been pointing out for months... that really takes the biscuit.
This sets the new standard for "gullible".
All IMHO of course.

Yes, sorry, that was exactly my point. He must think the rest of us are gullible with a capital G. Granted I didn't express that very well above, but it's what I meant. <red face>

And, yes, clearly he does. And he's clearly not wrong, either...
It seems to be a general theme in the modern world. Idiots believing the lies of charismatic charlatans.

Depressingly true. Paint your lies large enough on your wagon, and the gullible will lap it up.

Depressingly true. Paint your lies large enough on your wagon, and the gullible will lap it up. "His Powerful Tonic Will Keep You Breathless". While he has his hand on the shoulder of a woman. Really not sure how to take that. Still, as an advertising tag line, it probably wouldn't be a particularly successful one in the middle of a respiratory disease pandemic.....
