2) Accusing their accusers of the self same crimes. I'm not a psychiatrist, but it seems to me it's very close to the abuser's "DARVO" playbook:- Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender

That's basically how a lot of religions operate too. If you're not with us, you've obviously been corrupted by Satan the devil, the infidels/non-believers or <insert your own particular hate figure here> to work against us. I went to an adult christening for a friend's daughter, in a 'modern' church (lots of music, clapping and raising arms). It was fine until in the sermon when they said 'if you are not with us you are against us', this was a very strong statement not just a vague thing and I found it even rather threatening, what happened to turning the other cheek? I asked the family I had gone to support and they said it was not their usual church just their daughter's, but they agreed with everything that had been said. I was totally gobsmacked.

I can't attest to... well, anything about this. But I found it surprisingly, bleakly, powerful. Whoever wrote it deservers props.

I'll say this for the US. As much as the last four years have been a complete train wreck, at some point the idea that the courts, law enforcement and those thousands of troops are there to ensure the (hopefully!) peaceful transfer of power, not its continuation in the hands of the ruling party, is going to sink in.
That might plant some interesting seeds in places like Russia, Belarus, and China, and cause the leadership some sleepless nights.

I suspect the attempted coup in the cradle of democracy will have made all such tyrants sleep far more soundly.

In the short term, yes. If it's unsuccessful (hopefully it's already unsuccessful!)... in the long term perhaps no.

Rather depends who the courts and law enforcement and troops are loyal to, doesn't it?

Which is a load of BS obviously. Well that is true for the 1 Billion in the Western world, but to the other 7 Billion, perhaps not.

An interesting insight into life in the USA
Virtually any member of the public can carry a gun, but when 25,000 national guardsmen were billeted in Washington for the inauguration they had to get approval from the pentigon to be armed.

OK I'll take a small bet on this :-
There will be trouble on inauguration day and the days following, but on a lower scale than when Trump was inaugurated, but it will receive far more critical coverage than the "democrats rioting" did.
