I've often wondered what proportion of a population has to refuse to consent for law and order (in a so-called democracy) to break down completely. I suspect it's not very large - it would only take a few percent of a population, sufficiently determined (and armed!), to overwhelm any attempt at constraining it with standard legal means.
I'm pretty sure that, whatever the number is, Trump's nut-jobs exceed it. These are very dangerous times, and I don't just mean the next few hours/days/weeks - this will very likely replay in 4 years time, one way or another.

CCP knows it has to deliver 6.5% to the supports or the collapse

Why did law enforcement let a whole bunch of losers into the Capitol? What would have happened if Trump had egged them on? What do you mean "what if"...? They're very special and he loves them.

What would have happened if Trump had egged them on? Well, I suppose they would have had to deploy the soldiers or the whole thing would have been toast May be this is a show to end “democracy” in the US, the rise of Biden could turn into something like Brexit, delivers something that his supporters never expected

"These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long. Go home with love & in peace. Remember this day forever!"projects.propublica.org/politwoops/tweet/1346954970910707712

Trump says there WILL be an orderly hand-over on 20th...
He just cannot stop at that, though, can he...?

may work out well in as much as surely it'll remove any remnant of support and ability to do much before he's turfed out

always spouting sh*te isn't he - meant more it'll take away support amongst the last of his Rep. political cronies (rather than those dressing up as Indians and cowboys) and hopefully get him out without more damage.

"It's only the beginning of our fight"In 2 weeks time Trump's imunity from prosecution lapses and the legal cases will start.
I suspect he will have a fight in the future, but possibly not the sort that he is currently contemplating.

Or maybe he's perfectly aware of what awaits him and that's precisely why he's trying to cling to power by all means. The real reason Trump is terrified of losing the presidency: fear of prosecution

Worst version of Les Mis.. I've ever seen.
or
The UK's home secretary Priti Patel has called the scenes in Washington on Wednesday "horrendous" and unacceptable".
"His comments directly led to the violence, and so far he has failed to condemn that violence and that is completely wrong," she told BBC Breakfast.
Even a stopped clock has to be right every so often

Reminded me a bit of the Kapp Putsch, where the putschists arrived in the Reichstag when there was nobody there, claimed they were now in charge and made speeches to each other. But the civil service was on holiday and so they were standing in the centre of power, but could not grasp the leavers of power. Similar to the goon sitting in the Senate Speaker's chair. And now what?
Also reminded me of a cow in a Martin Amis novel. It runs towards the protagonists, who are trying to have a picnic and frightens them into jumping over a fence. But the cow has run towards them without any particular objective in mind and when it arrives it stops, because it has come to the end of its idea.

It's very sad, of course, but Trump explicitly threatened this and has been inciting violence within his fanbase for years...he's also deliberately courted foreign influence in the democratic system of US and installed his family in many key roles of the state so no great shakes there either. I'm surely not the only one finding the newly-adopted 'social distancing' of many of our beloved politicians today faintly hilarious? Thank heavens for the interwebs where our public allegiances are preserved to infinity and beyond. Jacob Rees-Mogg, Boris Johnson, Priti Patel, Michael Gove and the entire Brexit Party "Bad Boys" were fully supportive of this trajectory until (earliest point) they thought he might lose the last election. In the words of our current Leader of the House of Commons: "It is our national good fortune that the president with whom we will develop this new arrangement is Mr Trump. His election depended upon similar factors to those that led to Brexit. He appealed to voters left behind by the metropolitan elite and he exudes confidence about his own nation and a determination not to be a manager of decline, which also inspires the Brexiteers. " ( source) This is a great opportunity for our government to re-evaluate the way it should be seeking to unify our nation instead of actively stoking division in the manner it has adopted for the past 5 years.
