There are no constraints in the Constitution on the Presidential power of pardon. None. There is, however, a statement somewhere else in the Constitution along the lines of "you can't be your own judge", which is why there is talk of legal challenges should Trump issue himself a pardon. Either way it'll end up in the courts. EDIT: The other interesting thing about the pardon is that it presupposes guilt on the part of the person it was given to. That could have implications down the line for other crimes they may have committed, remove their right to plead the 5th, or influence their actions as witness etc. So before he leaves office he can pardon all the people that invaded the Capitol building yesterday, along with all his family and his best mate Rudy? Search can Trump pardon a family member and the answer seems to be yes

Video snips: Boris Johnson: Why Trump could deserve Nobel Peace PrizeTrump on Johnson: 'They call him Britain Trump' (<-- includes special shoutout to Farage who joined the rally) So many politicians acting like they've just woken up from a 5 year sleep but are on record as Trump cheerleaders. Through the lies. Through the racism. Through the pussy-grabbing misogyny. Through the cronyism. Through the mocking of disabled and weak. Through the collusion with Russia to corrupt democracy. Yet our heroes in government never wavered in their loyalty. Trump has done nothing out of the ordinary for him. The consequences are just a bit too transparent for comfort and he's less useful than he was, is all.

Kushner hired a prostitute he knew to seduce his brother-in-law, arranged to record a sexual encounter between the two, and had the tape sent to his sister
For some reason I can see DT and this guy getting on like a house on fire

Haha before I posted I deleted that pic. It's too much. Michael Gove brings out the absolute worst in me.

I always thought that Gordon Brown tyring to smile was the eeriest photo of all time, but this runs it a close second.
As an aside, what is DT doing with his left hand?

I was watching events unfold last night on CNN, and was amazed that the fact that the demonstration was known about in advance didn't appear to warrant any additional security.
If this is typical of security around the Capitol building, it makes you wonder what 20 religious extremists could achieve with a few grenades and a machine gun each.
Did you see that footage of the sole cop trying to fend off a dozen protestors on the stairwell? I've seen more security at a Slug and Lettuce on a Tuesday night. Not recently you haven't...

Perhaps in the future MAGA candidates may split GOP votes and thereby work to Democrat candidates' advantage?

What would have happened if Trump had egged them on? What do you mean "what if"...? They're very special and he loves them. I was thinking more along the lines of what if he said "....we need to rise up and defeat these anti democrats.....take to arms and take back what is ours...so great people lets storm the Captiol...and great patriots of america our beautiful security services come with us..." or something like that....

That proviso aside, yes, he could pardon all the people who invaded the Capitol building yesterday (which is Federal property after all), and Rudy Colludy, assuming his crimes are Federal. Article Two of the Constitution (Section 2, Clause 1) states "The President shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of impeachment". That's it. All of it. As I understand it the expectation was that it would be used to show mercy, or compassion, or to redress wrongs brought about by what can be an arbitrary and over-zealous legal system. Typically the DoJ prepares a list of people it think might be suitable for a pardon. Needless to say Trump ignored this. It's not like the power hasn't been abused before, eg Clinton pardoning Marc Rich, but Trump completely over-stepped the line. Take a look at this list, particularly the 2020 entries:- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_granted_executive_clemency_by_Donald_Trump

In that case Pence and other principal officers should have invoked the 25th amendment and stripped Trump of his powers for being unwilling to perform his duties. Something they have in fact been considering already.

I am more inclined to judge Michael Gove by his speech in the HoC on 30th December 2020 and I couldn't care less if his smile looked odd when he was standing next to The Donald. In other news, The Zuck has banned Orange Man probably permanently, not unsurprising perhaps, but regardless of the merits of this action today, it does raise serious questions about the power of unelected Megamen exerting control over the media that press barons of the past could never have dreamt possible.
