I see the BBC is milking this for all its worth, claiming that senior conservative MP's are calling for his resignation.
Who are these senior people? The leader of the Scottish conservatives, and 2 back benchers that I've never heard of before.

At least 5 backbenchers, most prominent I suspect is Caroline Noakes, a former minister, and Andrew Bridgen, a former Boris ally. Andrew Mitchell, he of plebgate, may be the next as his constituency, true blue Sutton Coldfield passed a no confidence vote in Bojo last night.

That's just the names who've gone public that they've already submitted letters to the 1922. By all accounts, there are a lot who - if they haven't done so yet - are getting very close. They're just not letting their names go public. Yet. What's going to be the tipping point? They aren't a sentimental bunch, they're simply reading the political weather. Johnson is dead in the water, that's not in doubt - it's just a question of timing. What's going on behind the scenes to get leadership bids prepared...?

Oh come on. You are not that naive. Political correspondents have their connections with people who are willing to speak but on the basis it is strictly anonymous/off the record. If they don't have, they quickly cease being paid to be 'political correspondents'. No really senior e.g. cabinet minister or non-cabinet minister is going to break ranks, or be seen to be undermining on the record at this stage. Its simply too early, and would have to be coupled with resignation from office. They'll bide their time until such time as the 1922 C gets to point of calling a leadership election or he resigns: and then they can say its a big shame, supported Boris but since there is an election ..... Oh, to you list above you can add Ruth Davidson. She is on record and considered a fairly big/influential player, and not one that owes anything to BoJo.

Davidson isn't a Westminster MP, though, so she can't contribute to the 54 letters needed to trigger a leadership contest. Gale, Ross, Bridgen are all MPs. At least two others have been named as strongly suspected - Wragg and Nokes. Only Brady knows for sure how many he's received.

Johnson is finished, it's already in progress behind the scenes and he may even have been told. He's now an embarrassment and liability to the tory machine - not just everyone else-, both personally and professionally. Behaving like Trump by trying to undermine parliament, the law and democracy was the final nail in the coffin, well another nail at least. Tories don't mess about like Labour, more money at stake.

...trying to undermine parliament, the law and democracy was the final nail in the coffin The peak of THAT was back in August-September 2019, three to four months before the last election.

I've seen enough episodes of 'Yes Minister' to understand how unattributable briefings work. An MP with an agenda / axe to grind tells his favourite journo that 'half the cabinet' want Boris out. The journo then exagerates what he has been told by saying that 'at least half the cabinet' want him out.
I can't see Boris getting the push any time soon. Far better to get all the 'party gate' scandals resolved and then the new man (Liz Truss no chance) can start with a clean slate.

Not just the BBC. Those rabidly left wing Boris-hatings rags the Mail and Telegraph have exactly the same story

If a lobby journo worth their salt says "half the cabinet", then you can bet that they've been told that by literally half of the cabinet. I wish I shared your optimism on Truss. Currently second favourite with the bookies, close behind Sunak, miles ahead of Hunt and Govey. www.oddschecker.com/politics/british-politics/next-conservative-leaderThis profile piece from October is... probably not among her favourite cuttings... but... www.independent.co.uk/independentpremium/liz-truss-conservative-conference-boris-johnson-b1930782.html"...provided she got past the MPs stage and made it onto the ballot that goes out to the 160,000 or so members of the party (who might actually select our next prime minister), there is every chance she’d walk it, elbowing her only serious rival, Rishi Sunak, out of the way."

Regarding Ms Truss, the fact that she is in with a chance of the top job is a sad reflection of the quality of MP's we have (same on the opposition bench, who would take over from Kier). As much as it pains me to admit it, the stand out performer in UK politics is currently the poison midget gem from north of the border.
I wonder how many of the current cabinet Maggie would have tolerated?
