Chris Mason, BBC political correspondent, interviews Liz Truss. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0hr0km0I haven't listened to the whole thing yet - but from the trails they're giving it on Today, it sounds like this is going to be comedy gold. She's absolutely fruitloop, and heading further into the boonies by the minute. Quote just now - "Liz Truss's public approval rate is currently 10%. That's the same as approve of North Korea."Also - second reading for Sunak's fixed DoB for tobacco purchasing is today. bills.parliament.uk/bills/3703/news Labour and just about the entire opposition are in support. Truss and Johnson and their acolytes are against. This should be an amusing result.I think morally and politically this is a difficult judgement to call. I'm surprised so many in opposition are supporting this: surely many of those have at the same time - now or in the past - called for liberalisation of drug laws / decriminalisation of drugs. I don't see how the two positions are compatible. I do wonder with the current trajectory of smoking it should just be left to die out of its own accord (pun partially intended). To my mind, a concern is that vaping is becoming a bigger issue. There is increasing evidence that the level of damage from vaping is considerably higher than first thought, and yet it's become an acceptable thing for youngsters to take up - and get addicted to - even as smoking has become almost taboo. As an aid to kicking tobacco, it's no doubt invaluable. As something which has become trendy to take up young - just as smoking once was - its a potential public health disaster in the making. whatever the claims otherwise many vapes are aimed at kids ( just as many alcopops were ) Flavours like strawberry and lime, brightly coloured packaging, brightly coloured shop fronts, even a lot of the disposable vape units are similarly coloured and I'm sure aimed at kids. What had concerned me over the last 6-9 months is how many clearly underage Kids I see smoking, sometimes really easy to spot as they are in school uniform ! Accepting I live in a deprived area and smoking is more prevalent here, I find it hard to understand when I see a child of 10-12 walking down the street with what I assume is a parent and both are smoking. Perhaps it's also a sign of attitudes or behaviours that they also often both clearly overweight

The "promised land": and yet our RAF shot down "enemy" drones heading for the country the UK support with "legit" arm deals.

Musk asks for $56Bn in remuneration from one of his companies. Seems reasonable to me - after all he managed to slim down the workforce by 10% representing a considerable saving. What I don't understand is how can a Judge get involved? In the USA of all places. Surely if the shareholders agree they are the owners of the company and can pay what they want if the company can afford it? www.theguardian.com/technology/2024/apr/17/elon-musk-tesla-pay

Media reports oil price rises due to tit-for-tat actions between enemies, that's the real goal I suppose.

So he rang up a party worker in the early hours to ask for £5k, to pay off 'bad people'. Also may have taken £14k of party funds to pay for private medical treatment.
What strange lives many MP's appear to live.

The MP, also voluntary unpaid trade envoy for Columbia, already has one resignation behind him from 2014: www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/tory-mp-mark-menzies-resigns-3300512 He's making quite a habit of this.

Considering 10,190 miles in 352 days is 29 miles per day average, a marathon across London would just be a nice warm-down jog.

The "Christopher" problem. Trying to google "Christopher" + <surname> -"accused" -"charged". It's like the net has buried the persons in the story, the Christophers in the story are very good "buried" their digital footprint, or they don't exist with those "names".
