The country's last coal power station, at Ratcliffe-on-Soar, finishes operations on Monday after running since 1967.
I wonder what Arthur Scargill will make of it?

I wonder what Arthur Scargill will make of it? I find myself not caring in the slightest. Which PM oversaw the greatest loss of jobs in UK coal mining? Alec Douglas-Home... That'll be the move from steam to diesel rail, then. Remind me about 1950s smogs, Grandad?

youtu.be/HNZDAkfNn6kLet’s hope the Jacobite Train will carry on using steam beyond 2050.

Cabinet Secretary Simon Case has announced he will step down by the end of the year on health grounds (ignoring the fact he doesn't get on with Sue Gray). In his letter announcing his resignation, he said it had "been an honour to serve two sovereigns, four prime ministers and over 120 cabinet ministers in this role".
Sir Humphrey Appleby wold have been proud

Peanut farmer celebrates 100th birthday.
He wasn't the best, but was way better than the last 2.

Meanwhile, the London Air Ambulance launches new Helicopter with the prince and a celebrity. youtu.be/hdmv851YNP4I don’t think it’s the one made in Yeovil by Leonardo. It’s an Airbus.

Having a load of terrorists living in the basement probably does.

Life expectancy is a bit complex, it doesn't just depend on the things that are going on that can kill people, it is also affected by the demography of the society. A few years ago someone went through all the doctor obituaries in the British medical journal, and found the average age of the Asian doctors was less than that of the white European ones. Various theories were suggested, until someone pointed out that there have been white doctors in the UK for a long time, so some will be 100 when they die. Most of the Asian doctors arrived more recently so none of them is very old, so the average age of those that happen to die has to be less. The same would apply if you looked at the average age of death of TikTok users compared with Facebook users, it's going to be lower for the TikTokers but not because gawping at videos is bad for you.

And of course it changes as you age stolen from www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/lifeexpectancies/bulletins/nationallifetablesunitedkingdom/2020to2022#:~:text=We%20have%20also%20published%20single,females%2C%20respectively%2C%20in%202021. The increased mortality seen since the start of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has also led to a decline in period life expectancy at age 65 years compared with 2017 to 2019. In 2020 to 2022, this was estimated to be 18.3 years for males and 20.8 years for females in the UK. These estimates are approximately the same as the level of life expectancy at age 65 in 2011 to 2013 for both males and females. Period life expectancy at age 90 years in the UK was 3.8 years for males and 4.5 years for females in 2020 to 2022. Life expectancy at age 90 fluctuates slightly each year. While improvements in life expectancy at age 90 have been low for several years, previous improvements in mortality over many decades, as well as historical peaks in birth rates notably around 1920 to 1921, have resulted in an increasing number of people reaching the very oldest ages.

Well, if you look closely during the 70s, Lebanon and Palestine had big drop in life expectancy.
This is the same for Japan during 40s.

This week's prize for most understated comment of the week goes to Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers. Having seen his side lose 7-1 in Dortmund Rodgers suggested that 'We weren't quite at our best'.
That leads me onto 'where have all the gret Scottish footballers gone'? As a Westcountry lad I went to college in Coventry in the 70's, and use to watch them play (back in the good old days when a student grant could stretch to such things). You had Bremner, Jordan and McQueen at dirty, dirty Leeds, Hansen and Dalgleish at Liverpool, Kenny Burns, John Robertson and Dave MacKay at Forrest and even Tommy Hutchinson (the wizard on the wing) at Coventry. Compare that to today's Premier League teams where I am struggling to think of anyone born north of the border who would make an impression.
