She is not seeking asylum in the UK right? She was in Good Morning today.

I see the Labour plan to ban smoking in pub gardens has hit the buffers (I assume this is what is called a U-turn when in opposition)

I just had a look at their manifesto and could see no sign of smoking bans in pub gardens. The only reference to smoking was the policy about no-one below a certain age being allowed to purchase tobacco. So I'm not sure if it really counts as a U turn when it was only a rumour not an official policy. Happy to be corrected if you can be bothered to read more of their manifesto than I could.

The government is to ditch plans to ban smoking in the gardens of pubs and restaurants in England.
Wasn't in the manifesto, but was subsequently stated as being current policy.

I suppose the gov being rules maker have to do “something”, otherwise, they will be seen as bad for just getting paid being “present” in the parliament , especially those ones which they think doesn’t cost our treasury The big question, will our government perform better with less than 650 MPs? Is 300 or even 200 are enough?

The big question, will our government perform better with less than 650 MPs? Is 300 or even 200 are enough? 1 representative per 100k people, rough numbers. I don't think that's too far off, really, especially when you start thinking about the geographical link via constituencies. If you're going to be reducing parliamentary numbers, perhaps start with the HoL? UK: Lower: 650 Upper: 804 (including 25 seats reserved for bishops of CoE) Upper chamber really shouldn't be bigger than lower... US: Upper: 100 Lower: 435 France: Upper: 348 Lower: 577 Italy: Upper: 205 Lower: 400 HoL hit about 1,300 members just before hereditaries were given their marching orders, then dropped down to about 700. Average attendance has remained fairly static at around 400... so what are the others doing? House of Lords Reform Act 2014 meant that any peer could resign from the house but retain their title (187 have) and would be removed but retain their title if they didn't attend at least once a year (16 have). Labour have said they plan to force peers to retire at 80. In 2020, 297 were in their 70s, and the median is currently 72 - while the mode is currently 77...! That should have a definite effect on numbers, if Starmer can refrain from doing a Johnson and throwing peerages to everybody that asks nicely. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c033dpqmnrgo

US: Upper: 100 Lower: 435 The US of 300Mil people has less than 535 people in charge of the law. That's pretty good. In that case, the UK only needs 100 for upper and lower, like a 40U/60L split.

Don't forget the 50 state legislatures deal with the vast majority of it... The President, Senate, and House only deal with Federal stuff, and there ain't THAT much of that. 48 of the states have upper and lower chambers, too - there's another 7,500+ members between them... www.ncsl.org/resources/details/number-of-legislators-and-length-of-terms-in-years

Agreed, but for a fair comparison you'd have to add all the local councils etc on the UK side of the balance... Don't forget that US states have counties, too... 3,143 of them.

Then Texas not doing that bad, with 30 mil population, 181 legislators.
100 U / 300 L split is probably enough for the UK?
