Call me cynical but I suspect this was an oven ready deal a while back, and then the small matter of Ukrainian refugees needing places to escape bombs hit the headlines and even Priti Patel might have thought that the two headlines juxtaposed might be a little incongruous. Actually, forget that: Priti 'Cruella de vil' Patel would not have seen any such incongruity, but Boris might have done.

So watch out all you yachties, cos if you breakdown in the Channel , once the RNLI gets a line on you, next thing 'll be a plane to Rwanda and retraining as a cane cutter.

I hadn't seen it before, but probably if I had I would have ignored as too stupid to be true.

Haas can apparently break the contract under various conditions including 'bringing the team into disrepute' (or something like that), which they consider Mazepin senior's close links to Putin was doing. Mazepin junior is not a great loss to F1, he was only there because his father's company funded the team. I do think it's a bit unreasonable I had assumed that Haas would just return the money (although it's probably mainly been spent), but Russian assets are being seized all over the place, I think Mazepin's mansion in Italy has been seized. I guess it will all be sorted out in court eventually.

The joy of contracts. I suspect somebody needs to read what they agreed to... but I suspect they'll be asking a judge to explain it to them sooner or later.
