Incidentally, there is another MSE free tool MSE Credit Club that would highlight any credit account that is setup in your name and also possibly the initial credit check performed by the company.
You get an email periodically telling you if there has been any changes in your Experian credit report.
Agreed, definitely worth monitoring your credit files. You can get free basic accounts that monitor your records on all 3 of the main credit reference agencies... I use the following: - MSE Credit Club (Experian)
- ClearScore (Equifax)
- Credit Karma (TransUnion)
In the sweatshirt scenario I would expect an email from at least one of the above as soon as the new credit account was set up (ClearScore is the best for immediate alerts in my experience).

Never wasted much time on spam emails. spam it, forward to report@phishing.gov.uk plus interested parties, delete it. I was fairly immune until a few weeks ago when someone had obviously added my email to one of these public lists that aspiring or freed criminals use as distribution lists.
Paypal is currently by far the most popular for the impersonation type email. The one that arrived today actually has a legitimate domain but a random and anonymous username, at least that's what the sender thinks. It came from ea.com which is electronic arts, an american video games company. Looks like they have their own outgoing mail system which allows subscribers to send fraudulent emails to people impersonating Paypal and others. A company like Paypal would surely be on top of this activity via the courts if necessary, easy money I would say as a non lawyer.

Flash SMS.
Never come across this before. It creates an unfamiliar stuck pop-up screen with 2 options to Cancel or Save, sort of window where rebooting the phone seems a safer option. Apparently it is a supported text feature used by genuine businesses for swamping customers.
The one I just received was supposedly from Lloyds Bank, not sure what it would have done if I had selected Save.
Still trying to figure out how to disable them in Android. I'm presuming it uses Android notification but because I wasn't saving them I've no record of it. It vanishes when you select Cancel so you can't forward it to 7726 and I'm sure not saving it.

I wouldn't do that because I'm waiting for a large payment from Lagos (its a bit hush hush but essentially I'm helping out the Free Democracry movement there) which I will need help pay for housing for the mother of a 21 year old girl I've met from Russia. My Ivana , 19 has fallen in love with me over the internet, but has fallen ill while on holiday in Lagos I need to western union £6000 there fo her medical care. Cannot believe my luck, me being 66, bald with no teeth. When she is well and i have payed the large legal fees to release the funds hidden for her by her father General Putin, yes related, she will travel here and we will be together. Just cannot believe my luck.

When he asked if being fat or bald or old would prevent him from finding somebody, he was told being fat and bald and old woundn't spoil his chances.

Some years ago, we were in the Gambia, at an ecotourism village up-river. There was a Danish woman, 60ish, face like a bulldog chewing a wasp. She'd rented two tall, muscular, young local guys for her holiday...

Biggest scam doing the rounds at the moment is a text stating " We could not deliver your parcel today due to underpaid postage cost's" ...... had it twice in the last week. on those though usually the "click Here" website address gives it away

The website address is not visible if the scammers use shortened links. I also doubt the website address would save many non-technical people from clicking, it's easy to make a fake address look like a real one at a glance.
Thankfully texts can only include links rather than hyperlinks like emails which allow the scammer to hide the real link with some innocent looking text like paypal.com. You have to remember to hover over the text with the mouse before clicking on it to get the real link/address/URL.

DON'T DO ANY OF THIS AND DEFINITELY DONT FOLLOW ANY URL HERE !!!!!! (Unless you're a bored techie) If I'm bored I sometimes take a look. Never of course by directly clicking on the link and also never clicking on any link that contains an alphanumeric string as that is likely to be used to identify you. One very recently in my spam box was in russian so I had to translte it and then the url https://documenteverywhere dot com/ really stood out. By all means go to that website at your own risk as it claims to be offering forged US passports and driving licences. They even state that they have "the abilitly to inject your data into government systems so the licences and passports show up as genuine" which is almost certainly total BS. I suspect what they are really doing is: A/ Taking cash for delivering nothing B/ Obtaining tons of person information. Not sure which and I usually duck out when it gets to the people stage. BUT I did notice their telephone number is based in Sweden. So why the heck can't the police there take them out ASAP ?

BUT I did notice their telephone number is based in Sweden. So why the heck can't the police there take them out ASAP ? Because their phone number being Swedish almost certainly means they aren't... With Voice-over-IP, VoIP, it's cheap and easy to get a phone number wherever in the world you want. Sure, most providers want legit proof of your details. MOST. First google result gives me an upfront choice of Stockholm landline numbers, or other cities or mobile with number allocated on order, for US$4.50/mo plus 4c/minute for outbound calls. At the other end of the tariff, for US$71/mo I could have nearly 9,000 included outbound minutes and 1.3c/min on top. How big a cold-calling spam factory do you want to run for damn near free from anywhere in the world?
