...or, indeed, an actual purveyor of piscine-bothering equipment. The piscines in question dont understand that they are being bothered.... they just want food, most of us picine botherers treat them very carefully, in return they get well fed.

Not sure what is going on if you want the item, if you pay by Paypal you will get you're money back if it is a scam. correct.. if you pay with paypal and its a scam ,, you get your money back. only if you pay "goods and services", if you pay "friends and family" as a favour to the seller to save him a bit on fees, then no protection. the reverse also applies as a seller, never accept payment by paypal outside of the marketplace. you will get an "invoice paid" message from paypal ( as in Paypal<youve.binad@scammer.com>) then a series of emails chasing postage.

If you find yourself in the situation of having dodgy family and friends that would (screw) take money of you fraudulently ... then i agree paypal should certainly not be responsible for that.

It's a favourite with the scammers it's a simple trick too, "it's £110 via PayPal, OR £100 if you pay as friends and family, because I save the PayPal and eBbay ( or whatever ) fees"
too many don't realise "friends and family" gives no protection.

People who get scammed by paypal, their bank, a phone call, an email... are almost always people who hand over their personal details... ie.. pin number, password etc etc.... because of (presumed) convincing communications... over the phone or emails... any one stupid enough to hand over their personal details over the phone or internet deserve what they get.. if they are thick enough to give this that or the other to some loser on a phone , then tough.

I'm quite surprised if you're getting a refund from claiming your friends and family have scammed you, since PP are quite clear that using that method disclaims all their responsibility. Maybe in the distant past, but they appear to have strongly cracked down on people trying to avoid paying them for the service by lying like that. www.paypal-community.com/t5/Security-and-Fraud-Archives/How-can-I-get-a-refund-on-friends-and-family-payments/td-p/2887446Have to admit, I've never once had to claim a refund off PP - and I use it regularly. Perhaps a little more pre-payment DD, eh?

1) This is what happens when you stop educating yourself or
2) Many more people are isolated now and have no one to confide in or get advice from.
or
3) Most people think contacting the police is a total waste of time.
The cockroach criminals operate with impunity and even when caught the punishment is zero deterrent laughable. As usual crypto currency is involved, very few people in this country at least have been scammed by their local bank branch (although I do remember the Nationwide trying to sell me an investment product during a mortgage application, where the first 2 years contribution went straight to them, a lot of staring ensued until she blinked first!)
Somerset woman loses £40k in online scam.

A little worrying that she is having to repay the loans, surely on a proven scam the banks should be compensating her
