I rarely pick up landline calls nowadays but on the last two occasions I did answer the phone and was told that my washing-machine insurance had expired. By now isn't this an old-fashioned scam with which many people are familiar? And it's quite labour-intensive as it was a personal call rather than the automated ones usually featuring a concerned American female voice warning me of a suspect payment on an account I don't hold. My Partner gets these all the time for her Bosch Washing Machine, she actually did have insurance for a time, but they ring very year about April wanting her to renew. I took the machine to the tip about 5 years ago.

LOL about a month ago I got a random WhatsApp asking me to do a piece of work urgently.
I replied and said "sorry you have the wrong number"
I then got a few polite messages apologising and saying how sorry she was and how she would like to take me for a coffee to apologise.
the next few messages got quite flirty, and I twigged that it was a scam ( what would a very pretty 20 year old want with a 64 year old man )
I played her along and sure enough she "wanted to teach me how to make money on crypto" I said not interested and over the next few days the messages got more and more explicit and how if she couldn't help me make £5,000 a month she would "give you the best night of your life".
All I had to do was open an account via the link she sent ( which showed up as a scam) Once the account was open all I had to do was deposit £10,000 and give her access to the account
I told her I wasn't interested in crypto and she explained in detail how it wasn't crypto it was Node Transactions ( LOL all Blockchain etc is Node Transactions ).
she sent me a series of pictures ending up with nudes ( I guess not of her ), and a request for pictures of me ( I guess that could have lead to attempted blackmail) with promises of a great weekend over in Dublin, and how she had split from her boyfriend and needed a man, and how this weekend would be the first of many. As a sign of good faith all I needed to do was open the account and send her the details and she would pick me up at the airport on the Friday night, and she knew a nice restaurant she would treat me to a really good meal and a bottle of champagne.
I guess I've taken up about 20 hours of her time now, and I think she's got fed up, this morning she called me "a useless waste of space"

...this morning she called me "a useless waste of space" Probably the same end result if the Dublin weekend had happened...

I have no idea what keith was trying to do. More pics, more texts?
I thought the quickest way to end waste of space convo is block and leave.

It had a "bumper sticker" which read "Send Nudes".

Had a call a couple of hours ago about the installation of insulation some years ago. "How do you know that," I asked. Whereupon she said "goodbye" and rang off. Pity. I keep on promising myself that just once I shall stifle my impatience and annoyance and string the cold-caller along for a few minutes.

Points for how long you can keep 'em before they hang up on you. Extra points if they swear at you first. My crowning glory was having one accuse me of wasting his time. ...then there was the double-glazing cold-caller many years ago. I'd answered all their questions honestly and fully, but not volunteered information they hadn't asked for. We'd got an appointment set up for somebody to come and measure for a conservatory... "One thing, before you go - how will it work on a rented second floor flat?"

Hadn't checked my father's email for a while. This was sitting in there, looking much more professional than it looks here as this was just a copy and paste. As I was in a hurry, I almost almost hit the verify account button. The "How can you unblock your account?" bit though suddenly rang alarm bells, and I did what I would normally do and look at the sender address. Ho hum. If my father was still sufficiently compos mentos to be looking at this email I wonder what would have happened...

Well, I should feel blessed as most of those emails are filtered to the junk folder. The good news is, regardless what they know about the "email account holder",
NO ACTION REQUIRED.

We used to give them the correct number. but on one occasion after a proper "Karen" rang several times and even after we told her repeatedly we weren't the tyre company she still demanded a price I put her though to a colleague who was a petrol head, and he quoted her a silly low price, and then said that the price was only valid for the next 30 minutes.

Many years ago a small slip of using the wrong town isdn code , the town I worked in had two depending if the telephone number required was 5 or 6 digit resulted in calling us instead of a local hotel group. To my horror my co-worker having tryed to inform a caller of there error but just getting getting anger and abuse return, gave up and took the booking with a casual no need for a deposit or confirmation sir just turn up on the day I have all you details recorded it will be fine and hung up. We also often got calls for a local garage and after an angry no wanting to listen call told the caller , no worries sir it will be available for collection in 30mins just a few checks on your new gearbox, seems the customer only wanted a new battery but the call unexpectedly cut off before he could express his full feelings.
