welcome to the energy savings switch line did you know just by switching supplier you can lower the amount of energy you use
and exactly how does that work same electricity same Voltage, my devices use the same amount of power to work. so I decided to play along.
young sounding lady tells me that by switching I can save money,
says she represents all the big players, who am I with at the moment
"Octopus"
ooh we need to get you away from them and onto a decent supplier they have very expensive tariffs for gas and electric.
What's your electricty tariff
"Flux"
tap tap tap, FLUX that's awful, you are paying about 48 p a unit for electricity
we've got some much better tariffs lets see SSE, British Gas, Bulb, Shell
"err you do know Bulb is part of Octopus"
no it's not
Whats you annual Electricity Bill "£234 of credit"
No I need to know how much your bill is not your current balance
"I just told you"
that's impossible, whats your annual usage
"around 2000 kWh"
right so with FLUX then your bill is about £1200 a year
tap tap tap, I can switch you today and you will save £500 a year how does that sound.
"terrible, my current cost is actually under £300 and you are offering me a special deal at £700"
she rang off

Chase Bank.
To help keep your money safe from fraud and scams, we're changing the types of payments you can make from Chase.
From 16 October 2023, if we think you're making a payment related to crypto assets, we'll decline it. If you'd still like to invest in crypto assets, you can try using a different bank or provider instead – but please be cautious, as you may not be able to get the money back if the payment ends up being related to fraud or a scam.

Could someone please tell us which bank / e-wallet is best for making such payment? Or is the the UK planning to deplatform non-uk crypto?

"did you know that if you've ever had a mortgage or other financial product, and the advisor or website didn't make it clear they received a commission that you are entitled to the commission plus any interest paid on the product and commission plus a penalty equivalent to the interest paid as compensation. you are also entitled to statutory interest from the date of the agreement"
LOL I didn't listen further. on my last mortgage I will have paid around £40,000 interest so they reckon they can get me £80,000 plus interest.
you can see how the gullible will fall for it, on a quick calculation anyone who had a mortgage and has paid it off will get the property paid for and the interest repaid.

Is this a scam ,I think so. So daughter has 1st grandchild and her partners father is not in a good financial position , as a present he buys a session for baby photos marketed at grandparents ,I kind of guessed prints will be charged for and may be a little steep. But wow, the minimum order is £250 for 3 prints and as a special offer £750 for 18. So instead of a nice present the new parents are looking at a big bill or possibly offending grandad by wasting his money and walking. This possibility was raised by the photo business to apply pressure, but thank God they walked. So if your thinking of doing the same present for your child ,don't. The parents have invested in a extra lens for their digital slr and are just going to keep pressing the button until they inevitably get a few good ones that are individual and special to them.

Photographers are a shady bunch, nice trap set. The only one I've ever (nearly) paid for was for my wedding and he made a total mess of the video quality. Your own photos of your family are always far better especially now with cheap cameras and photo editing.

Not sure if it's specifically a scam rather than just expensive. When I got engaged (early 90's) we were given a similar deal from the jewellers. After our session we got 3 pictures for £75 which if indexed is not a million miles from the £250 you quoted above. I do remember at the time feeling a little obligated to buy despite being expensive (That was half a weeks wages for me back then) as a souvenir for both parents, we had the 3rd picture.

Special offer, huh?
I think photographers charge ££ to £££ per hour. Customers are buying their copyrights and service, not the actual prints.

I own several digital SLRs and assorted lenses.
I've done weddings as a favour / present. people moan that a wedding photographer wants £500+ they don't look at time I once spent a day going through what they wanted, then the day doing photos, then several hours with them selecting the ones they wanted printed. So in this case 2 and a bit days effort allowing £20 per hour £300 plus and printing these days isn't cheap, and the 2 I know who do professional photography of weddings usually have a couple of cameras, and an assistant doing some candid ( no one looking ones ).
but a studio setup and charging £250 for 3 photos is a disgrace, as bad as the school ones that in one case I know of was charging £40 for a basic set ( one large 2 medium and 4 small )

Diesel emission claims. Had a diesel between 2009 and 2020?
I remember watching the very good documentary/film about the VW cheating discovery and exposure but not been following the legal activity. Seems to be building up so get your claim in if you can be bothered.

mobile rings and I answer it
"we are the energy switching service for the UK”
“did you know that the energy price cap is the limit on how much you can pay for gas end electricity in the UK”
“on the first of July the cap came down from £3286 to £2045, a reduction of over £100 a month”
“many customers are still on old fixed tariffs and could save £100 a month by switching please press 1 to be connected to one of our trained advisors and start saving money today”
LOL anyone can switch, there isn’t just one company that can do it for you, the price cap is not a limit on how much you can pay, it’s what an average ( mythical) household pays,
As I remember it the July reduction was around 9% and the October around 8% certainly not the nearly 40% these people are claiming

I got stuck in real scam thanks to government policy, realistically sh*t deal for energy.
As I am a customer of unregulated heat network customer, I can’t switch and no price cap from GOV.
I was treated as a customer of a business customer and no way to suspend service.
The top up meter keeps sucking 25% of my top up to recover a “debt” from reconciliation. 🤬

My Google Nest thermostat stopped working. It was completely dead, no lights and no response. It controls my heating and hot water, so neither would work and there was no way to override.
I checked my nest app and it indicated that there was a problem.
As the device was about 5 years out of guarantee I started googling likely causes and possible replacement costs (£188 to replace)...
I was busy looking for recommendations for a local engineer to take a look when... I received an email that appeared to be from googlenest. It invited me to visit a website, enter a special code, and my personal details, and someone would be sent to fix the issue at no cost to me, even if it was long out of its guarantee.
Being an ex-softie, and not completely unaware of the world of scamming, I realised that this was an obvious scam that was triggered by me searching for ways to fix my problem.
To cut a long story short, I was completely wrong!!!! Google had detected the fault from my app, realised there was a common fault with the Heat Link and arranged for an engineer to fix it at absolutely no cost to me. The weblink was required for me to book a time to get it fixed. The engineer has just left and is all working again. Amazing service, especially considering how long ago the guarantee expired. We'll done Google.
