BBC Look North presenter Peter Levy, 68, fell victim to a fraud in February, after receiving a call from someone pretending to be from his bank claiming there had been some suspicious activity on his account.
He willingly entered into discussions with 'the bank', resulting in his account being drained. But not to worry, he works for the BBC and they publicised his case. Bank reimbursed him, I assume to avoid bad publicity.
Interesting that it was said that the scam involved half his life savings. I know that BBC may not be top payers, but a 68yo who has half his life savings in a bank ccount?

😮, the news wouldn’t even say which bank reimbursed him. That’s part of the deal I guess.

thankfully at least their route to market is unlikely to be directly targeting the old and infirm of this world.
You could take a view that there is a bit of a Darwin Awards filter to all of this. I mean, if you start ar*ing around with Contracts for Difference because you took advise from someone you'd seen on Love Island or The Only Way is Essex, then ....

and it's not just half wit influencers that do this sort of thing. But be careful, or it might come back to bite you on the ass.
The complaint argues that the celebrities, in lending their credibility to the failed cryptocurrency exchange, were “responsible for the many billions of dollars in damages they caused.

Whatever it takes to change things and for governments, people to wake the f**k up and laws made or changed. The Internet is literally the electronic version of the lawless Wild West, anything goes.
What the hell is this pile of emails I've got in my spam folder every day, each one has criminal intent.

Is there any global appetite for cooperation? They're coming by email, so there's no social media companies to blame. The US and UK both have long-established anti-spam legislation. All these already come under fraud etc legislation. There's no point in having an unforced and unenforceable law.

I've often wondered why they don't charge for sending emails. 1p a time and mass spamming would disappear overnight.

Earlier this week, a guy on my NextDoor neighbourhood forum posted links to some VERY dodgy investment schemes including the latest iteration of a Ponzi scheme. A couple of us queried the links with Belarus with its Russian sympathies, prompting the guy to confirm that his advice related to Unitsky String Technologies. Not very clever of him - I Googled the words and got some very stark warnings about it. Many of the members of the Forum appear very gullible and naive, and I alerted the Mods to the posts - it took more than 24 hours for them to be taken down.

I have been added to some random groups from time to time. First thing I do is block and leave asap. I haven't given consent to join any random groups.
