The EU and other incompetent and corrupt european institutions are standing up to Putin, he must be quaking it ! UEFA officials sitting watching Zenit St Petersburg playing in the Europa League tonight and they will 'consider' moving the Champions League final. EU don't want to remove Russia from Swift right now, let's wait and see what happens. And to top it off, The Eurovision Song Contest will allow Russia to compete. The show must go on.

"How NATO and the West have caused the war in Ukraine"So you're firmly nailing your colours to the Putin mast, along with such sound luminaries as Farage, Banks, Trump... and Laurence Fox? The historian clearly said (twice) he is no fan of Putin. I also agree 100% with that clip. not a historian as such tho - perhaps just an idiot

I still have no idea what Michael is on about. I hope all his family are as safe as possible. I don't understand why he thinks any of us have done anything against him. Putain is clearly the person who hates him and us. We should agree to not trust Putain together and I hope he will finally join us in that endeavour.
It is tough to learn that your sources of information have been feeding you false information for some time. It can be very confusing and I continue to reach out and recommend that Michael does to not listen to RT.

Big test for the EU, if they turn out be hopeless and helpless against Russia what is the point of them, it is failed project as our NigelF predicted? Countries would be better sending their money to NATO.
Meanwhile Switzerland are feeling very safe at the moment and staying neutral. How much would you like withdraw comrade ?

For once Johnson actually sounded Prime Ministerial this afternoon. Yes he did. Sounded as though he actually cares too, which is a pleasant first. A small part of me wonders whether he'll maybe rise to the challenge and show some solid leadership on this, even if it's just due to his obsessive Churchillian fantasies or a desire to bury partygate or the Russia Report and keep his job - I'm not fussy. Feeling very sad for everyone either present there now or with family and friend links to Ukraine, irrespective of their political leanings or sympathies. Indeed. But particularly so for those who are in the "front line" facing the full force of the the worlds second most powerful armed forces, and the most powerful in europe. My reaction I'm sure would be to curl up in a ball and hope it all goes away. I would say my prayers are with all the people of uktraine right now, but I'm not religious so I won't use such a throwaway term. My thoughts however are, and have been for a while.

We’ve already seen the impact of our actions on the Russian currency — the ruble — which early today hit its weakest level ever. The Russian stock market plunged today. And the Russian government’s borrowing rate spiked above 15 percent.
He's a 69 year old tub of lard supported by osteoporotic bones , one punch from the Mayor of Kiev should do it. Who just happens to be a former world heavyweight boxing champion.

So did my emerging markets holdings (I didn't look, but I did peek). But to be honest I am far more concerned with the human tragedy unfolding in Ukraine, and what it portends for the future .

funny that. I was going to say a few hours ago that I thought the honourable way to sort this out would be to put Putin in the ring with the current Mayor of Kiev both armed with boxing gloves. Seems fair. But I thought some might see that as a trivialisation, rather than simply a normal human way of finding some humour in a bleak situation.

Due to the large number of idiots on this thread this is my last post. Right now I have a new car (5 months old) being used by a family we don't know who in a basement carpark in a residential block of two towers each around 26 stories high - so a lot of people. This basement is being used as a bomb shelter at night and it gets very cold hence the need for folk to use cars for a little warmth and comfort. We also have just bought a flat for around $160K nearby. If Kyiv goes to Russia we'll likely lose a heck of a lot of that. Most important, we have a brother in law who is still there in a poor part of town. He is in his thirties and has mild learning difficulties. He is really worried (overly so perhaps). The mother in law is here with us in the UK and they're all very worried. I didn't think there would be a full scale invasion. I was clearly wrong. I think and hope there will be little resistance. What would be the point? Militarily Ukraine will lose to Russia and any resistance equals more death and destruction on both sides. Finally I say to RM and BB: In common with a lot of people, I have lost a lot of money in P2P. I was definitely influenced by posts on this website that you along with MrC were running. I personally have no ambition at this stage to find out who you are and pursue it but I would say people in glass houses don't throw stones. Its a sad day for democracy and for what your family has and is going through....stay safe

Strange, my P2P losses would have been considerably worse if not for the warnings on this forum. So I'd like to thank the many idiots on here Perhaps in this, and other areas of life (can't think which), you should be more selective about which information sources you trust. Or at the very least, not flounce off in a huff whenever information or debate appears that cause your precious beliefs to be 'attacked'.

I think we need to make allowances. The intolerable strain michaelc and his family must have been undergoing these past few weeks must be worse than most of us have ever had to endure in our lives. He could well be saying things here that he might well regret with a clearer head. We don't make our best decisions when under immense strain. Given the circumstances, let's please cut him some slack.

However what are you doing posting at that time of night instead of being tucked up in a warm bed. Additionally there is a casual 'idiotism' on this forum that some may find offensive.....

Big test for the EU, if they turn out be hopeless and helpless against Russia what is the point of them What do you want "the EU" to do? There is, of course, no single EU military force, just 27 individual nations who control their own militaries, most of whom are also NATO members. There is an EU foreign and security policy - and that's been absolutely unequivocal. Josep Borrell, High Rep for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy (also vice president of the Commission), has pulled precisely zero punches for weeks - and has been united with the US's Blinken on their condemnation. I'm not seeing the US wanting to get militarily involved, either. Or the UK. Or... twitter.com/JosepBorrellF
