iirc between them Russia and Ukraine account for some 30% of the world's wheat supply. No guesses as to what this will do to the price of bread.Don't say that there will be none on the shelves tomorrow!

"How NATO and the West have caused the war in Ukraine"So you're firmly nailing your colours to the Putin mast, along with such sound luminaries as Farage, Banks, Trump... and Laurence Fox? The historian clearly said (twice) he is no fan of Putin. I also agree 100% with that clip.

The historian clearly said (twice) he is no fan of Putin. So did Farridge. But, strangely, he's been VERY quiet on Twatter today. Although, tbf, Farridge has said the opposite in the past... www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/nigel-farage-vladimir-putin-is-the-world-leader-i-most-admire-9224781.htmlNow, what was the context around that time? Oh, yes, that was EuroMaidan and Crimea.

"Didn't expect that, still all the EU's fault."

Clumsy GRU continue www.bellingcat.com/news/2022/02/23/attack-on-ukrainian-government-websites-linked-to-russian-gru-hackers/After their stupid attack on 4 British citizens in Salisbury and 1 Russian citizen the GRU are very visible. I guess the Brits who died at that time hurled themselves into the weapons grade nerve agents the GRU operators just happened to be taking for a walk through the back streets of that city. Putain is a murderous , a paranoid who suffers from short-man syndrome. Still, they also dragged Polonium, a highly radioactive material through London to poison another person. That was back at a time when Putain claims he wanted to be friends. How dare we not shake the friendly hand then! I well understand why Macron didn't want to take a Covid test in Moscow. The GRU would have poisoned him like they also did with the poisonous underpants of an opposition leader. It is clear the "man" is bonkers and in charge of a nuclear power.

While I agree with the sentiments, I'm not so keen on the 'short man syndrome'. I am short. I don't find myself 'identifying' with Putin. I only hope that there are saner individuals that can get between him and any orders to use nukes or chemical weapons. I also hope - but without any expectation - that Russian forces get bogged down (very unlikely given the huge disparity in military capabilities) sufficiently that it gives some people food for thought and reason to enact internal change.

Putin has finally shot his bolt and condemned Russia to a bleak future. Where are the martyrs when you need them? He is a war criminal now. He hasn't got a single ally in the free democratic world. He's made a thinly veiled threat to any other country who intervenes with nuclear, he's a lunatic who has finally flipped. How does he think it's going to end and benefit Russia, he is screwed ? Europe surely at last realises doing business, cultivating relationships, appeasing and creating reliances on manipulating de facto dictators in countries with no free elections is madness.

I'm waiting for a regular RT news watcher to come and claim that launching rockets against airports in Ukraine is just Putain showing how friendly he is, or how much safer the people of the border lands now feel. How the Russian army is now driving through the streets getting rose petals thrown at them by little old ladies.
How dumb do they think we are.
735 people arrested in Russia for demonstrating for peace. These terrible peace lovers.
Free Crimea!

If his ultimate objective is to keep Russia under his total control and stop what seems to be a natural progression towards the way of life in the west, he may well be succeeding.

Well one of our regular RT news watchers commented on a vid link here earlier and proclaimed he was '100% in agreement' with it. That vid including an early statement that Putin (though the author used the term 'Russia') was "justified" in launching his attack on Ukraine. So at least we now know that the person in question is full square behind the idea that it is 'justifiable' for a democratic sovereign state to be forcibly attacked and its people subjugated by a far more powerful (and autocratic) neighbour because someone in charge thinks it is their historic and unalienable right to do so. I guess that makes their position clear.

For once Johnson actually sounded Prime Ministerial this afternoon. Yes he did. Sounded as though he actually cares too, which is a pleasant first. A small part of me wonders whether he'll maybe rise to the challenge and show some solid leadership on this, even if it's just due to his obsessive Churchillian fantasies or a desire to bury partygate or the Russia Report and keep his job - I'm not fussy. Feeling very sad for everyone either present there now or with family and friend links to Ukraine, irrespective of their political leanings or sympathies.

Due to the large number of idiots on this thread this is my last post.
Right now I have a new car (5 months old) being used by a family we don't know who in a basement carpark in a residential block of two towers each around 26 stories high - so a lot of people. This basement is being used as a bomb shelter at night and it gets very cold hence the need for folk to use cars for a little warmth and comfort. We also have just bought a flat for around $160K nearby. If Kyiv goes to Russia we'll likely lose a heck of a lot of that.
Most important, we have a brother in law who is still there in a poor part of town. He is in his thirties and has mild learning difficulties. He is really worried (overly so perhaps). The mother in law is here with us in the UK and they're all very worried.
I didn't think there would be a full scale invasion. I was clearly wrong. I think and hope there will be little resistance. What would be the point? Militarily Ukraine will lose to Russia and any resistance equals more death and destruction on both sides.
Finally I say to RM and BB: In common with a lot of people, I have lost a lot of money in P2P. I was definitely influenced by posts on this website that you along with MrC were running. I personally have no ambition at this stage to find out who you are and pursue it but I would say people in glass houses don't throw stones.
