Its no secret that our Special Forces are massed on the Welsh Border , is it Adrian? I don't know what you mean. (A mysterious helicopter? Right above the house? No, I can't see anything there... Honest.)

It will be sad to see Russian tanks rolling in as they did in Czechoslovakia. We have a security presence in the Ukraine, poised to retreat. Can Putin really just turn them around and put the Army back in the box after he has taken this position? He will lose face and look weak . It must be costing a fortune having them just sitting there and they will be needed to get the harvest in. My money is on mid Feb ,unless someone comes up with an unlikely face saving gambit. Its keeping the UK Defence Ministry on its toes and providing welcome relief from the 'we are offended' media chorus. I think Putin would just say he never had any intention of invading Ukraine and it was all 'The West' warmongering. It was all just just normal military exercises, nothing to get excited about. Edit: And if he does invade it will be because of 'The West' warmongering.

I thought our special forces were Welsh. What colour's the boatshed door? They just go a bit down the road for a hike in the Welsh hills in order to practice dying of heatstroke.

It really is about water and Putin's need to find a way to steal it

Given most of the equipment that has been deployed probably should be in museums that's probably a reasonable assumption

Different in that respect but they were part of the same country until 20-30 years ago so a lot of people remember it. Well, yes... You could equally suggest Serbia and Bosnia, say. They were both part of the same country back in the communist times, too... Scotland might be a better example? The US must promise that Scotland will never be allowed to join the EU. The English Army will continue its military exercises next to the Scottish border until this issue is settled.

China has joined Russia in opposing further Nato expansion as the two countries move closer together in the face of Western pressure.

It is what you would do after stealing most of the south China sea, Tibet, 20% of Georgia and Crimea.
"stop advancing towards us!"
Frankly we all need to read how Hitler spent a lot of time explaining how the Poles were attacking Germany before he began invading Poland or how the Sudatenland was really part of Germany and just needed to be brought back to the motherland, oh and Austria.
Do these people not read history

Well quite. A point I'm sure I made earlier on in this thread. Accusations of reverse incursions and suppression of the 'ethincally' Russian/(German) populations in the bordering hinterlands, and finally false flag operations are straight out of the "how to start a war in Europe" playbook, 1938 edition, with amendments made in 1939.

Note that Russian passports (internal passports) have been given to Ukrainian people living in the "breakaway" parts, so Python can now claim to be assisting people stolen from the motherland. Which is exactly what Hitler did. You would think that after the last Patriotic War there would be some shame in using the Nazi play book.
No idea what an ethnic Russian looks like as Russia includes areas close to Korea and close to Poland. I'm guessing just part of the 1920s racism which survived to 2020
I understand there has been some confusion in Nato/Russia meetings over the last 30 years
1) Nato thinks that at worst all they agreed to do was not to house US troops in what was East Germany, but probably not even that
2) Russia thinks that Nato promised to not expand towards Russia
from such confusion small wars grow, oh and nationalism/gangsterism

I see that President Zelenskyy has decided that it now merits moving from 'stay calm' to 'brown stuff is about to hit the fan'. Assuming this happens, as seeming more and more inevitable, what a complete tragedy. Ukrainian president suggests Russian invasion could be imminent
I have to say that if this does go down, I hope that there are a bunch of high level military on the Russian side that are considering a coup in the event that they get bogged down. Won't happen if it is done and dusted quickly, but if they get bogged down then I would say Putin was at risk. Its not like the average Russian consider Ukranians to be their enemy.
