part 2 of the consultation www.gov.wales/fairer-council-tax-phase-2new Bands A1 < £80,000, A2 £80,001 - £110,000 even in Wales only 3% would fall in A1, I'd say that was low even for Blaenau Gwent, Just looked 2 Storey 20ft by 12 Ft in need of repairs £75,000 they don't seem to have twigged that the reason Council tax is high in some councils is the majority are low band. Blaenau Gwent as an example 85% are current band A or B, so they have to set the precept at D high to get the income needed from what are mostly band A / B houses. Looking to introduce Band I ( £880,000 to £1.2M), J ( £1.2-£1.6m), K (> £1.6M) lol these 3 bands represent < 10,000 properties ( not in my area/Council, but Wales as a whole )

England: Hold one's cup of tea, old chap.Wales: 2003 nominal values England: 1991 nominal values But... www.rightmove.co.uk/house-prices/blaenau-gwent.html"Properties in Blaenau Gwent had an overall average price of £156,952 over the last year. The majority of sales in Blaenau Gwent during the last year were terraced properties, selling for an average price of £121,180. Semi-detached properties sold for an average of £166,854, with detached properties fetching £313,755.Overall, sold prices in Blaenau Gwent over the last year were 7% up on the previous year and 30% up on the 2020 peak of £120,410."...and, even so, it's not representative of Wales as a whole. It's probably the single most deprived area in Wales by almost every measure.

that's what I'm saying
It's a hugely deprived area yet even here properties average terraced property at £120,000 plus that's band B on the sheet, so even here very few will be below £80,000 but because values are so low council tax is high if 85% of properties are band A or B then it stands to reason that if the council needs an average of £2,000 per property in tax the tax for bands A and B will be well over £1000, as the discounts by band are set.
I bought this house almost exactly 6 years ago, Since then I reckon it's gone up in value by 80% Ok some of that is having an upstairs bathroom and the solar panels etc. It's currently band A I think on the new scheme it will be a B, had I not made changes it would be A1/2 border. It feels wrong that I improve the property to be greener and that will probably be penalised

Westminster has the lowest rate in England and the highest property values. Of course, that's got nothing to do with the ability to pay for the individuals who receive the annual council tax demands...

It appears the plan in Wales, according to a local Councillor, is that at least to start with Band D will be the same everywhere. This means deprived areas will collect less, affluent areas more, so then the WG will adjust the central grants so that the deprived areas get more and the affluent areas get less, meaning that at the end of the day each council can provide the same services.
Of course it is mere coincidence that the areas that will gain will be Labour and Plaid, those that lose Tory and Lib Dem.
What I see it does risk is that those in poor areas will find it harder to move to more affluent areas as the Council tax will be that much higher.
When pressed he said that it is likely that A1 will be about £200 less than current A here and A2 about £50, with E and above paying £50 more. I thought to myself he doesn't know how council tax works as its all percentages of the Band D.

No revenue generated from 20mph fines? Seems quite a bit of opposition to this. I'm sure CT rises wont help votes either.

CT rises likely to be in affluent areas not labour areas. you also have the "Labour is the party of the working man" often spouted by those that have been on benefits for years. Also the Labour was good enough for your great grandad, your grandad, me and your dad so it's good enough for you. Recently talking to an "unemployed" friend he reckons benefits will go up 50% in the first year of a Labour UK Government latest stupid idea on 20MPH zones is it won't apply to buses or taxis.

We have the same general attitude up here. SNP days are numbered so labour will be the choice of the masses as their grandad voted for them! Presumably the welsh government have done research to suggest being hit by a bus at 30mph is less severe than by a car at 20mph? Smacks of a cheap way to raise revenue. Both the Welsh and Scottish governments are from the same pod and need replaced.

So buses and taxis can travel faster than other traffic, that won't cause many accidents at all After all, an 18 ton bus at 30mph doesn't carry THAT much more energy than a car at 20mph.... For now, it's only a research paper from a policy think-tank, but it does rather strengthen the argument from the 20mph detractors, who've said all along that the new limit was nothing to do with safety and pollution, but is instead part of the drive to force people out of their cars and onto public transport. The paper even reminds us that "Welsh Government set out a policy goal to have 45 per cent of all journeys done by public transport and active travel by 2040". I just wish they were more honest about things. The laughable thing is, they've been telling us all along how insignificant the extra journey time is when reducing from 30mph to 20mph.... so why doesn't the same argument apply to buses and taxis??? Clowns.

Now if you think the 20MPH limit is just a farce do remember that when it was first mooted, the First Minister also said that eventually the NAW wanted a 50MPH limit on all other roads including Motorways. He also claimed at that time that the 50MPH limit on the Trunk road round Port Talbot had been proven to be a great success with reduced accidents and purer air. So I wonder what effect this will have on traffic using the M4?

It's always tickled me that, in an apparent effort to keep the air clean for residents, you have to slow to 50 for a long stretch of the M4 past Port Talbot, the UK's largest steelworks and one of the largest in Europe.
At least it offers drivers longer to savour the smell and taste of the air as you dawdle past the foul muck being spewed out on an industrial scale, literally.

We have stupidities as I drive down to see my partner one stretch of road is 20, coming back the same stretch is marked 30. I find at 20 more people will dive out in front of you at junctions etc. slower speed causes congestion, look at the Brynglas tunnels at 50 on the M4 it is always slow whatever time of day you hit it, so you have hundreds of cars travelling slowly which will produce more pollution in the same area as the same number of vehicles being there for 1/4 of the time. It's all part of Welsh labours plan to force us into public transport, which would be ok but it's virtually non existent here

Or if you dont live in Wales but find vehicles cheaper there! Why is that? I bought our van new in wales (campervan conversation), forget the name of the place.... david spears commercials. Bought a motorbike there in 2015, a year old, much cheaper than any other uk dealer. My sons nissan was bought in Chester.... Maybe the government are incentivising folks to sell them cheaper to reduce pollution??😁
