I saw the 2 Lancasters (Thumper and Vera ) fly overhead at Humberside airport a few years back, the sound was incredible almost visceral, what It would be like with 50 or 100 defies belief.

The obit in the times is where I first read this, and its undoubtedly a better article. Including that the raid on the Sorpe didn't use the Wallis bouncing bomb as the dam design meant it was thought to be ineffective. Instead they had to fly along the length of the dam to drop an 8,500lb bomb onto it. He was the bomb aimer for his plane. He wasn't happy with the first runs over it and wanted to get it right. He only decided to release on the 10th, yes tenth, run. From 30ft above. RIP Jet Black, veteran drummer with the Stranglers, and a huge part of their success. One by one, the musicians I grew up with are going.
