So Alex Salmond Seems you can die if enough people think about it enough. Actually apart from the insanity etcetera I like a good rabble rouser........... Never was a fan of the SNP, but you have to admit that he built it up from a bunch of carrot crunchers to a major political force north of the border. Unfortunate that all of his hard work was undone so quickly by the wicked witch of the north and her husband in the 'campergate' scandal.
I guess his memory will always be darkened by the sex assault allegations (where he was found not guilty, even though his defence council admitted he was a bit of a touchy feely character who occasionally went too far).

Geoff Capes a true sporting giant, and yet a man who bred budgies.
His UK shot pout record set in 1980 is still the official record.
Coincidentally he lived most of his life within 20 miles of my parents, and the record was set within 20 miles of where I live now.

June Spencer, who played matriarch Peggy Woolley in BBC Radio 4's long-running drama The Archers from 1951 until her retirement in 2022, has died at the age of 105.

I'm a PG Tips man myself, but sad that we are about to see the demise of Typhoo Tea. Latest accounts for 2023 show a loss of £38m on sales of £25m.

It depends what you mean by demise. The company has been run into the ground by its private equity owners, and AIUI no longer makes tea but buys it in. So you could say Typhoo Tea, as such, has already been demised. But I expect the brand will be sold and live on in some form. Whether it ends up back in supermarkets or only in discount stores like B&M and Poundland remains to be seen.

I think it's called asset stripping, and it's been around since the 70's

I think it's called asset stripping, and it's been around since the 70's is it any different to managers piling up debts against the company, and being allowed to buy the company back for a penny in the pound and reopen as Xyzco(2024), suppliers etc get shafted.

Today I mourn the passing of John Prescott.
He was an "honest" politician who almost always was honest about what he said and did. Whilst I disagreed with his socialist philosophy I respected his beliefs and his willingness to say what he thought.
Compared to out present politicians he was a titan who should engender respect even though I never supported his beliefs.
Why can't our present politicians be as honest as he was?

Unfortunately I disagree with that analysis. Though I'm prepared to take a more favourable review as and when I read the obituaries. My overall impression of him is that he was a bit of a grifter and status seeker. Always struck me that he was more taken with the trappings and status of power than using that power for the real good he proclaimed. A bit of the "I've become one of the bosses, I deserve it". A touch of the "Animal Farm" about him.
