There is very little difference between the Starmer and Sunak government. My main objection to the Tories is they are more corrupt and blackmailable than Labour - hence more likely to get us into a direct conflict with Russia. If we had a modern voting system, we could all select the candidate we thought best and have our vote count for something rather than voting for or against the party that won our constituency last time. Even simple preference voting would enable this. But as David Cameron argued, everyone understands a cross in a box. Putting 1,2and 3 in the boxes might confuse older people. here in Wales at the next election we don't get they option to put 1,2,3 even if it's for 3 Labour candidates the system will be the D'Hondt PR, at it's worst. The Parties will choose the order of the candidates we each get 1 vote even though 6 to be elected 1 Labour finish Top and their candidate is Male, then the next candidate from whichever party must be female, if the next is female the next candidate must be male this presumably forces all the parties to put up 3 male 3 female candidates, but how would this work if 2 male independents were at the top after 3 or 4 rounds but the next candidate elected had to be female

Wheel nuts start to slacken on the Labour car even before the engine's started. Turned into a cul-de-sac already. Put your seat belts on everyone, it's going to be an expensive and rough ride.

How unusual - the Daily Excuse spinning something so totally misleadingly. The 2030 date was set in late 2020, and only put back until 2035 in September last year - a delay that was criticised by most of the motor manufacturers. www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-66863966There's no surprise at all, since Starmer said at the time that he'd be sticking with 2030. www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2023/09/20/rishi-sunak-news-live-suella-braverman-net-zero-latest/I'm also unsurprised to see that the knuckle-dragging "but wot about us poor put-upon drivers" usual suspects are tying themselves to RefUK, nor that that's where the Excuse is clearly pointing people. It's actually just a ban on brand new, non-hybrid, ICE-only petrol and diesel cars. They made up less than 45% of all UK new car registrations last year, although if you include the half-arsed-halfway-house mild hybrids (since there'll be a minimum non-ICE distance), it's just over 60%.

OK, thanks. I'll be honest, I was looking at it's 'all time' graph, if one roughly put a ruler through it, recent times look higher than it's former rough average, on sight. Others are also highish. By my reckoning, VWRL is 2 standard deviations above its long term trend line.
I sold in April above £100 and did not expect it to rise much further.
Maybe I got that wrong...
MW
well it's curious as to what will happen. As a lay onlooker this is a time when I'd expect reviewers to say isms like 'we're due a small correction ' and what goes up must come down ' etc, but people aren't saying this.

Another man got investigated by gambling commissions over the alleged bet of a copper related to the election date. I haven’t seen these headlines before until this year.
Funny thing is, there’s no internal investigation from the force yet. I wonder why. And how did the GC find out his bet(s)?

How stupid do you have to be to think that won't get found out? And, yes, there is an "internal investigation". He was suspended last Friday, was arrested on Monday for misconduct in public office, and it's been referred to the IOPC. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ceqqjj2132jo

I wonder has GC investigated any bets placed around the same time like the MP or the copper? and no investigation? 🤣🤣🤣
Anonymous tipsters can be anywhere, and anyone received the tips could be a doctor, a nurse, an account, mp, policeman or just any ordinary gambler.
in many occasions, tipsters aint always right, quite often got it wrong.
Also, betting on behalf for someone else happens. I am not saying it is completely illegal, definitely not right placing bets for under 18s nor laundering money for someone else.

It's the same entitlement as partygate.

😅 I have already said it’s not one bet. How many bets have been placed and how many GC has investigated?
Yet, not bookie named. How odd? just anything related to the trouble party on news headlines
Have they found out the original tipster(s) yet? There’s a difference between inside information and tips from anonymous sources, and placing bets on someone behalf
betting patterns like this happens a lot to bookies. They just don’t like to payout

For those who are aware of him, Sam Freedman's Comment is Freed is generally pretty good, thought provoking material. anyway, he is doing regular election poll update analysis stuff (in conjunction with others).
In one of them I've been reading is analysis of Bristol Central. Buried in the commentary is the following snippet:
"The incumbent is Thangam Debbonaire, a professional cellist (and member of the parliamentary quartet “the Statutory Instruments”)"
Now that is the sort of little titbit of information that brings a smile to my face over breakfast.

A smart bookie would spot any unusual betting patterns, and lay the bet back on betfair to reduce liabilities, or even restrict taking “election” bets if there are too many on the day.

what about the outcome of the first person appeared on the headlines? he apologised whether you like it or not. Oh, well, that's OK, then. He attempted to defraud a business for personal gain - ignoring any political implications - but he said "sorry (I got caught)", so everybody should just smile and move on. Isn't that what's most likely happened? The original one laid the bet over the counter at a Ladbroke shop in his constituency. I mean, where's the ONE place you can guarantee your face and involvement are going to be tied together very publicly? That's then got the other bookies looking a bit more closely at the bets they've taken. Remember, there's ID checks for online bets.

🤣🤣🤣
There’s a difference between spotting it and before it’s too late. A smart one reduces liabilities before too late.
Someone could have accepted the bets in the betting shop without notifying the manager. What if the manager is taking 4 hours break, on sick leave or on holidays?
