I'm generally broadly positive, and supportive, of the BBC. But the recent news about Boris' loans, and the Lineker kerfuffle, have definitely damaged my view of it as an institution. That particular ship sailed long ago. cf. Gavyn Davies and Greg Dyke. Two very senior appointments of prolific Labour donors and supporters. The wife of the former being Gordon Brown's private secretary, pure happenstance...

Anyway, he's back, to wave his arms about and grace our Saturday late evenings. And will no doubt bring Shearer with him. I can't tell you what a massive sigh of relief there was from my armchair, 'cos there wasn't one.

I have suggested to the BBC they do a MOTD without the padding as I watched the bits I want to see in 1/2 the time.

Just sack him.. same with shearer and wright.. i watch MOTD cos its a good programme, it tells me the footy results, shows me the ins and outs of the footballing day, i doubt many people watch MOTD because of Lineker and his ilk, he signed a contract which will have included a clause to be impartial, whether he understood it or not, he's clearly not impartial, he's a left wing wokie, the BBC should just get a back bone and send him on his way. So IYHO "impartial" means "agrees with government, no matter what"?Does that apply to all policies from governments of all shade? Are the UN "left wing wokies"? Should Lineker have been sacked when he made seriously disparaging comments about the Qatari government's human rights record, or does impartiality stop at Dover? (BTW, the BBC's impartiality policy applies equally to high-profile off-screen as well as on-screen personnel. Is donating hundreds of thousands of pounds to a political party and doing large personal favours for senior party figures "impartial", or only while they're in government?) bold. nope.. it means impartial.. not supporting any of the sides involved in an argument:

What's all this fuss about Gary Lineker? Can't he say what he thinks? I personally I don't agree with him, but I don't see why he's been suspended. MOTD is going to be interesting with nobody there. Might be better and the BBC decide not to have him back. It all seems like a storm in a teacup to me. .... personally I also think he's very two faced when he moans about government cuts etc yet is involved in several tax avoidance schemes, and the comment from his lawyer on a recent investigation, was that HMRC should be looking elsewhere.the reason he, Fiona Bruce and many other presenters ( even some virtually unknowns) are contractors and not employees is simple they can pay less tax, by having the BBC pay the company that employs them ( owned by them ) for their services, they take some wages and the rest in dividends etc. So the HMRC tribunal has just rule in favour of GL and against HMRC, to the tune of £4.9m Lineker wins appeal over 4.9 million pounds tax bill
