Just had to ring a local hospital to change an appointment, now my appointment was early May,
disgusting experience, I could hear the member of staff drinking whilst talking to me.
got through the security questions asked me what issue was so I explained I would be on holiday "can't you move holiday !"
I explained no and at this stage I would lose a lot of money
twice during the process of cancelling appointment and making a new one the "system crashed" and she had to reboot and I had to pass security again. for pitys sake I was still on the phone.
eventually found a day with free appointments agreed to an 8:30 even though it will take me > 1 hour to get there. then I get "oh hang on, note from Doctor no appointments before 10" so now I'm booked in for 12:00

Just a self-indulgent rant ... This morning I rang the local haematology department to enquire mildly about a follow-up appointment I was due early this month following my giving five phials of blood for comprehensive testing on March 5. I explained that I'd been feeling very tired since then, perhaps/probably due to my red blood cells not replenishing. No, I couldn't speak to a nurse because I didn't have one allocated to me. I should ask my GP for more blood tests, because my levels might have changed. But what about following up on two key indicators in my results? No, more blood tests needed. Five more phials? I spoke with a very sympathetic receptionist at my GP's who was as puzzled as I, as they wouldn't know what tests to do (and they don't cater for the full range).
Haematology said my follow-up appointment was now due later this month, but there was no spare capacity - perhaps when I do get it, my levels might have changed again, so yet more tests ...
Anyway, I'm speaking with my GP on the phone this evening.

13:45 today I had an appointment for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) screening.
being me I arrived early ( as it was somewhere I've not been before )
arrived one other person in waiting area, he went in within a couple of minutes.
Nurse came out 5 minutes later asked me if I was for screening, I said yes and had the procedure, after doing all the admin
absolutely all clear
out and back in my car by 13:40
was a very good experience

I went into the Xray department and it was quite busy, this was December time, I too was typically early by 30 minutes. Imagine my surprise when I was called in within 10 mins having already expected to be at least a half hour wait, didn't even have time to open my reading material i'd taken with me. I got my results within a few days, all clear thankfully considering how much exposure to asbestos etc in my early career. My wife and I recently took part in a recent local scheme to check for lung cancer etc (its nearly been 4 weeks so I'm guessing , fingers crossed still, i'll get an all clear on Sat as they suggested they would call me back within two weeks if there was an issue, 4 weeks to give me all clear) I think this was a country wide scheme and apart from the xray before christmas I'd not had a CTscan before. Very interesting experience especially having to hold one's breath for periods which I was surprised how long one can do this sort of thing for. My experiences medically so far in Wiltshire have been nothing but very positive. I guess we are lucky compared to many across the country. The green trees and rural outlook helps too ;-)

I'd not had a CTscan before. Very interesting experience You want to try an MRI scan, that's a proper experience.

I have fluctuating energy levels that the medicos have never been able to fully explain, and on Tuesday had a series of blood tests at the local hospital.
I was surprised to get a phone call from the hospital at lunchtime today to say it was sending a courier with high-strength Vitamin D tablets - on a Sunday. I did say that I was taking some low-strength tablets (400iu) but apparently I needed something stronger. A few hours later, I had another call to ask if anyone could collect them from the hospital, six miles away. I said that I was coming in anyway on Wednesday, but the lady seemed to think that wasn't soon enough, and confirmed that a courier would deliver them.
The pills arrived by taxi. (When I took a taxi home from the hospital on Tuesday it cost £22.50.) They're 800iu Colecalciferol (Vitamin D3) which, it seems, I can buy over-the-counter. On Wednesday my GP had texted to advise that I should buy 1000iu Vit D tablets
I'm very impressed that there were staff on duty on a Sunday to ring me and arrange a courier, but wonder if the Vit D insufficiency needed such an urgent response. Some non-NHS websites even suggest that my existing level is OK.
I must be missing something ...

so why not tell you to take 2 of the 400s until you could pick them up.
Given you must have low levels for then to be spending money on a taxi ...
I don't know ( and am not going to enquire ) as to any medical conditions you may have
Calcidiol is better for those with malabsorption issues
and for our vegan / vegetarian friends ergocalciferol is plant rather than animal based, cholecalciferol is animal based

My Vit D was below the reference range and, I believe, contributing to my fatigue, but doesn't seem dangerously low, and I could have done without the pills until tomorrow, when I would have happily spent a few quid to buy across the counter.
I'm not sure that there's enough joined-up thinking within the NHS to take this into account, but I am due for more blood tests on August 5, so it'll be interesting to see if the new pills have had much effect by then.
(In May I had three sets of blood tests within four days, with triplication of some, though a couple of "specials" were done only twice - partly because a hospital letter specifying the tests did not arrive,)

Had a letter on Saturday asking me to make a routine appointment to discuss a letter from the hospital.
So I ring this morning number 15 in queue, 2 minutes later number 1 !
get through and explain, "Oh sorry we have no routine appointments available, you need to ring back tomorrow afternoon, or Thursday when we release more" So I explained I'd rung twice last week and been cut off after over an hour ( I think I've damaged a rib and need some stronger painkillers and a professional opinion ). "oh I don't understand that, let me look" "ah I have a free appointment on 21st August, do you want 8:30, 8:40, 9:00 or 10"
So I've taken the 9:00 with a note that I need to discuss the letter from the hospital and my rib issue
but for pity's sake over 3 weeks to get an appointment, given that I've had the problem with my ribs for nearly 2 weeks now I feel justified in going to A&E if I don't start to feel better in the next few days.
oh and the prerecorded bit when you ring in still refers to "changing the way we are working due to covid"

oh and the prerecorded bit when you ring in still refers to "changing the way we are working due to covid" One health authority (in the Midlands IIRC) has re-introduced mandatory mask-wearing, and in my Googling attempts to identify it I came across a number of hospital websites that still require it by patients and staff in certain situations, possibly more so than pre-Lockdown.
I've had rather too many hospital visits as an out-patient in the last 19 months and the last occasion I noticed most staff wearing masks was in March 2023.
Yesterday there were bins for used masks at the exits from my local hospitals.

<RANT> we have been asked to use the shiny MySurgery APP so I install it and I create an account Now the reason for installing it was so I can request repeat prescriptions easily So I go to the prescriptions bit and it says to go to a website for this So I go to the website and have to create another account ! get in, go to get a repeat prescription. and what I want isn't on repeat. This is an adrenaline pen with a shelf life of around a year, If I get stung by a bee or a wasp and don't have my EPIPEN I could die, even if I use it I need to get to hospital as the last time I was stung my throt started to swell. I ring the surgery "oh yes we can sort that, can you ring back tomorrow after 12 as you may need an appointment to see the pharmacist, or the pharmacist may want you to see the doctor before issuing a prescription - without this I could die !!but ill ring back tomorrow and my prescription will probably be ready early next week. well that's the best part of 2 hours wasted </RANT> and we wonder why the NHS is falling over

and we wonder why the NHS is falling over Except for the minor detail that this is an incompetent private business, under fixed-price (per patient) contract to the NHS.

I didn’t know the pen is £47+ online and couldn’t find any used pen on the bay 🤣
Anyway, it seems boots sells them.
I assume home is safe. Stay home.
