Just listened to a rather enthralling programme on radio 4 ... discussing a potentially fraudulant website called Parish UK now being investigated by trading standards, appears to be an almost identical copy of the .GOV website, investigations by R4 discovering that the man behind it all is non other than Tim gordon... not sure what he's up to but it appears to try and get people to think it is a gov website and then targets visitors for a £39.99 fee ... looked in companies house and he's not registered the business their. The gov have apparently warned Gordon that his website infringes copyright and he apparently has responded by putting a small disclaimer at the bottom of the first page. I Wonder. Edit. craftily he has registered the business "Parish services ltd" .. but under Alistair Gordon .... can you mess about with your name in this manner?

That page does indeed look very much designed to impersonate a gov.uk page style (even the cookie banner matches).
Took a quick look at the page source and yep, the js/css classes etc tend to have 'govuk-template' etc.. prefixes.

Definitely a deliberate attempt at impersonation if the class names etc. are anything to go by.

Surely the lack of ".gov" anywhere gives the game away? Of course, if you're in a desperate hurry, or not particularly internet savvy, you may well miss such an obvious omission.

See also: a miscellany of websites aimed to "help" applications for passports, driving licences, etc etc for a fee. Few quite so blatant as this.

CH don't have a radar - just search a well known Austrian corporal or any other 'comedy' alias.

Agreed but I would say using .uk is a close second - certainly tons more fooling potential than say .co.uk. Other official sites such as police.uk use it.

The gov.uk framework is 'freely' available (whether it's freely usable - and particularly for this purpose - is another matter): design-system.service.gov.uk/The earliest capture of parish.uk from Dec 2021 acknowledges use of the 'open source' resource (see footer on web.archive.org/web/20221202215650/https://parish.uk/ ) in line with OGL guidelines but appears to have dropped that acknowledgement by Feb of this year.

I think the question is does this contribute a government service? It looks more to me like those impersonation sites that take payment for free services - the ones government departments keep trying to remove from Google.
