I have a guy asking questions on a damaged lens I have for sale, he's finally asked "as I repair these and sell them on for charity will you let me have this one for £3, as repaired and working they only make £15 tops" i've replied "I'll take as many working ones as you can supply at £15 each, as I have no problem selling them for £40 plus" just twigged looking at the advert I have it for sale with free postage:- postage will be £3.19 Ebay fees 30p total £3.49 so I lose 49p, cheaper to throw it in the bin. he's come back and said he "doesn't understand the response as he doesn't sell lenses"

Normal private seller fees for 'above standard seller' are -
Fixed transaction fee of 30p
Final value fee of 12.8% of total price including postage. Regulatory Operating fee of 0.42% of total price.
A £100 sale gives you £86.48

It is unfortunate that between eBay and Royal Mail, low value/small items are a non starter -- it literally does make more sense to throw them in the bin or keep them.
I have a little table-thing at the end of my eBay spreadsheet which has a "If selling price is X, for this postage rate, return would be ..." -- it takes into account fees plus cost of jiffy bag. It's there as a reminder not to go below a certain threshold and end up in that "wait, so it cost me 5p to sell this item?" territory. I can wind the starting price up until the return hits 0.00 and know that is the absolute minimum!

Whether you are buying or selling , what are your feelings with best offer? If I'm buying I generally offer approx 10% less . I've had several buyers for really low priced items ie a tenner , offer 50% under asking.. For fun I checked out a buyers postcode , looked at house prices in his street and the cheapest was £2500 a month to rent or1.5m to buy. I guess that's how they get money in the first place!

I have minimum at around 15% below the price and guaranteed accept at about 10. To round the original story off the lens sold yesterday at £19.50 Friday "I have X,Y cameras will this fit" me "yes of course it will" Saturday "I have X,Y, Z cameras will this fit" me "yes of course it will" Sunday "I have X,Y cameras looking to buy 2 lenses would you do a discount" "me yes, free postage and 10-15% off for for 2 lenses, exact amount will depend on which lenses"

Whoops I had a big sale last week 2 items from 7 sold returned for refund - all sold to same buyer. Gone to issue the refund and eBay in it's wisdom has decided that it will charge me for the refund, but is cancelling all my fees this in simple terms means I'm paying back £40 each for the 2 lenses and I'm getting £25 of fee credit.

Spoken to eBay this morning, and had a negative feedback removed
item sold "XXX lens spares / repairs autofocus doesn't work"
feedback "nice clean lens but autofocus didn't work and seller refused refund"
the feedback has been removed because :-
a) there is no communication between me and buyer about a refund b) it is clear from the item title and the description where both mention that it doesn't work, eBay felt the feedback misleading.

FAST CHEAP WINDOWS 11 CORE i5 LAPTOP 32 RAM 1TB SSD WITH 1 YEAR WARRANTY
The sellers list any laptop with Core i5 CPU with 32 RAM and 1TB SSD from £109.99, sounds too goo to be true right.
The reality:
Intel CPU from any GEN. Any brand. Core i5 Models out of stock, i3 only. 1TB Models out of stock, 128GB only.

for pities sake
"I see you have 10 of these for sale will you do me a discount on all 10"
"yes If you buy all 10 I can do then for £40 each rather than £50, "
Ok that's 20% off but postage is 10% on one item and 10 costs very little more to post than 1, plus I sell 10-15 of these a year so I'd be able to liquidate a chunk of stock
message back "great so you'll take £40 for 1, as that's obviously your best price"

I just sold a couple of bits from the ongoing(slow) garage clearance. A part sold for £8 us evri 3.90 postage. After fees, packaging, fuel to take to drop of, I reckon I lost money. If it wasn't for the fact I may have ended up binning some of this stuff, it's prob not worth the hassle. Ebay days a truly numbered. I was even charge for "regulatory " fees !

I used to sell surplus bits and pieces on ebay but now I just give them to charity. Less hassle and I get to feel good about it.

£8 ? It would be interesting to know the average price of items sold on ebay. I don't think they are going anywhere but they should have a smarter fees system or eventually items below a certain price will end up in landfill or the incinerator silently cheered on by 'green' manufacturers, my lower limit is around £20. Greed always prevails through growth and monopoly and BS claims of merger / takeover being good for the customer. Their success comes from people wanting to do the right thing wrt to recycling, waste and looking after the planet but continue to look for ways to increase their cut. They increased my selling fees from 13% to 14% when they dumped Paypal, no doubt also claiming it was good for the customer.

I have “sold” many items for under £1 before brexit vote, with free delivery. Some generates £5 bonus profit after bought but not loss making.
