Just had a parcel delivered, on the listing " from a smoke and pet free home" the parcel and contents stink of smoke, which was noticeable as soon as I opened the parcel, and the camera bag itself is covered in animal hair.
so why say from smoke and pet free home, when it clearly isn't
bag is currently in my shed

Have you contacted seller or involved ebay? Buyers have a lot more protection than sellers.

The seller shot themselves in the foot - if they hadn't said anything I suspect that'd be the end of it. If you like you could raise a 'not as described' claim and see what happens. Buyer might offer a return (at their expense), or partial refund.
Doubt you'd have to provide much in the way of proof - a photo of some fur would be enough for ebay - as above they bias disputes towards buyers.

He may have bought it in that condition, his home may be smoke and pet free. Just economical with the truth.

From Smoke and pet free home? It usually matches anything like garment “used” once or new by a lady seller.
Camera bag? probably not.

As mentioned... not as described, let seller suggest a compromise. I had a buyer want a £1 back for an item costing a fiver with free post. Now I always charge postage even if it means I may be pricing myself out, I'm not in the market to lose money. These are items I'm clearing out but I'm no charity for chancers. I know its irrelevant but Out of interest , how much did you buy it for?

Including the contents £65 ! plus postage. the Camera now doesn't smell too bad, I'll break even If I ditch the bag, rather than make a profit

One question, if the eBay/PayPal protection for whatever reason fails or is unsatisfactory, isn't your fallback Credit Card Section 75 cover invalid because you bought via a third party or somesuch? eBay does seem to be heavily (and possibly/probably unfairly) biased towards Buyers. Bit like P2P Platforms seeming to be heavily (and definitely possibly/probably unfairly) biased towards Borrowers.

But both still seem to work together in (relative) harmony. I can't recall the last time I had an eBay buying or selling transaction that wasn't through PayPal.
