This came up at our parish council meeting the other night.
It does NOT include double glazing - probably the single biggest upgrade to many older properties...

yet they talk about external and internal wall insulation ( internal being on the inside of the outer wall rather than in the cavity)
and of course what would make sense is for a surveyor / assessor to visit a street, and for the installers to do the whole street rather than Bloggs insulation does no 1, Smith does number 3, Jones does number 5, 7 gets missed cos Ethel didn't hear about it 9 is Bloggs again but several weeks after the first job.

LOL no inside the house, ie make the rooms a bit smaller Bets on which Labour politician will announce next week: "The despicable Tories want to make your houses smaller. We won't introduce any measures that reduce the size of your rooms..."

Isn't the inside of the outer wall IN the cavity? Three ways to insulate a double-skinned wall. External <outer leaf>Cavity <inner leaf>Internal

He said: internal being on the inside of the outer wall rather than in the cavityAnd I queried whether they are in fact the same place.

In my case a single skinned stone wall so inside is inside the house.

Insulating the inside face of the exterior skin of an existing cavity wall or the exterior face of the interior wall leaving an air space would be a major construction feat, probable demolition of the exterior wall and rebuild. However it would be the only retro fit cavity wall I would consider, my house being within 1mile of the sea in a 270 degree arc exposed to high winds and driving rain. Conditions that the bba recommend the refusal of retrofit cavity wall infill but the companies fit on the island all the time. Also insulation removal firms do a good business getting the stuff back out again. The industry guarantee is not worth the paper it's written on and it is not government backed only approved, practically impossible to claim on and laughably underfunded.

Tbh I'm getting a bit fed up with all this. Governments telling me I should install linked smoke alarms, heat pumps, no more log burner or oil/gas boiler, cant drive my diesel car anymore u nless I pay more, carrier bag tax, alcohol strength tax. So much for cost of living crisis. How are we meant to pay for all this?

And I believe just ONE major volcanic eruption pushes us back a decade or more? Don't all these measures cost us a fortune? For realistically FA effect on the planet from the UK? You know, the "Drop in the ocean" comparison? I think some perspective is required, pronto?

You know, the "Drop in the ocean" comparison? I think some perspective is required, pronto? realistically the UK is 1% of the emissions for a lot less than 1% of the population per capita is the best way of looking at it China produces the most but per capita is half of the US the UK is around 1/3 that of the US per capita We are the 17th most polluting country out of 209, so we are hardly in a position to criticise others, we need to be taking the lead because at least 9 of the most polluting countries above us as sure as hell won't Telling the American people to reduce emissions is almost as guaranteed a vote loser as gun control per capita we are about 60th something need to happen if the planet is to remain habitable, we also need to remember as one of the leaders into the industrial revolution we are responsible for a good chunk of the historic rises I took my figures from www.worldometers.info/co2-emissions/co2-emissions-per-capita/
