Alisdair Cameron, giving evidence today, comes across as very credible. He paints a pretty poor picture of the entire corporation.

I can only speak for myself, given that attraction is in the eye of the beholder, but a few points specific to PV's appearance are: 1) work history prior to POL indicates she's way too a) intelligent and b) corporate-street-wise to get away with the kind of responses that others have so far; 2) the accountability buck lay with her; 3) more emails emerged very last minute (why?); 4) nominal contrition so far...what does that translate to in detail; and (saving my very reddest of buttons to last) 5) the unbridled fascination I have with people who pursue official "Good" status in society and promote ideologies to the masses at the expense of basic common sense and fairness.

One thing that will be utterly cringeworthy is the inevitable repeat of a read out of "deep and sincere apology". I have found watching bits of the inquiry very interesting, and illuminating. In one sense I would like to watch more - I think I still have Simon Clark's appearance on a tab somewhere ready for me to go back and watch more of - but ultimately I don't like sitting in front of laptop/TV for long periods. I need to do some bike maintenance at some point today: I may stream the audio of the inquiry while I'm doing it, instead of music. The problem is that with much of it you kind of want to watch the video so you see the various records that are being talked about. I hope they do a highlights reel at some point. Perhaps they could call it "The Good, the Bad, and the downright Ugly". It would inevitably be heavily biased towards the last two.

Should see me through three days or so. I didn’t realise you enjoyed watching this much. What’s the big attraction that I miss? That's an interesting question, and not one I'd thought about before. Let me try and answer. 1. It's an incredibly human story - incompetence, pride, shame, courage, loss, redemption; David vs Goliath; cover ups; and corporate malfeasance etc. 2. It's historic, at least as much as it's the largest miscarriage of justice in UK history. It's important for that reason if no other. 3. Being able to witness legal proceedings like these is a priviledge, and one that is not available to people in some other countries we could mention. I think it's important to recognise that, respect it, and value it. 4. It's simply interesting to see how the wheels of justice turn. I've been impressed by how the proceedings have been carried out and I've been very impressed by (most of) the barristers. 5. On a more personal (and prurient) level, I've always enjoyed a little schadenfreude when it comes to organisational / corporate catastrophe. Yes, I'm rubber-necking, so sue me . 6. I'm bored, have the time, and am learning something.

OK, so contrary to what I suggested....I have started watching it. She may be a fairly smart cookie, but I think Jason Beer is going to chew her up and spit her out. Based on the first 30 minutes or so. Bringing up that text exchange with Moya so early is like a knife in the gut.
This could be rather too gripping for me to tear myself away from....

I didn’t realise that’s so much learning. I hope it is recorded for future learning. I couldn’t afford to time to follow that today. Enjoy your favourite free show.

I bet Paula Vennells (CBE) is very grateful that Rishi "It can only get wetter" Sunak launched the start of the election campaign yesterday. Helps to keep her off the front pages. A little bit.

I've no sympathy for Paula Vennells and think that she deserves the grillings she's getting, but I did feel uncomfortable at seeing her and the other ladies (lawyers?) having to force their way through the media scrum as they arrived for the hearing.
