Former Post Office chair Alice Perkins was warned about potential faults in the Horizon IT system as early as 2011, an inquiry has heard. At the time, the Post Office had prosecuted hundreds of sub-postmasters for fraud on the strength of faulty data from Horizon accounting software. Ms Perkins, who was giving evidence at an inquiry into the scandal, said at the time she did not make a link between the two.

An interesting thread, this one. But just on this one page 18 there are two instances of blasphemy which add nothing to the debate and are needlessly offensive. Can I suggest bracknellboy and james100 that you give it a break? It just spoils what you have to say, for no purpose. However, I have no intention of entering into a discussion and shall have nothing further to say on the subject. If you think that any post is inappropriate you can report it to the mods, and they will decide what to do with it.
I'm not in favour of a system where individuals can decide what other people are, or aren't allowed to say

However, I have no intention of entering into a discussion and shall have nothing further to say on the subject. ethel westcountryfunder Use of of such phrases, including the likes of "Oh My G*d ! " and "J H C" are part of everyday vernacular. For myself, I can say that particular usage is not intended to be either "blasphemous" nor offensive. I wouldn't personally consider "Blo*dy Hell" to be offensive either. Whether it is considered by some to be blasphemous is not something I feel qualified to comment on. I disagree they 'add nothing', since their usage is intended to convey a level of shock/incredulity or other similar reaction. Regardless, I note that some on here find it offensive, and alternatives are certainly available. I will therefore endeavour to use alternatives should I find myself naturally using similar in future: needless offence serves no purpose and is unnecessary. On the general topic of "blasphemy" however, I would make no such promises. As an atheist my views in many cases are likely to be considered to be blasphemous by those who are not. I would make no apology for that nor make any attempt to avoid expressing such. I am in fundamental disagreement with the concept that something "offends my faith" is any form of defence or credible reason for special treatment. I will refrain from pointing out the obvious glaring example of what many atheists & humanists would consider the blatant ethical and moral hypocrisy that appears to exist at the core of this very topic.

Heh, so Alice Perkins, ex-chair of the Post Office, is married to Jack Straw.

Interesting that Paula Vennells nearly got the sack in 2014, according to reports revealed in the Horizon enquiry today. I wonder what difference it would have made if she had been "let go" then, rather than hanging on for another five years.

She probably would have been Bishop of London, which would have put her in the Lords and better enabled her to fight against any scrutiny of POL

A lucky escape.

OMG this is appalling
Hope the guy from second sight has recordings or copies of emails
If What he says is true then a whole load of lawyers ( and others ) need to be charged and dealt with by the courts.
and then the lawyers needto be removed from the profession

I did get a good laugh out of this morning's proceedings. Ian Henderson, the Second Sight witness, asked to make a correction to his witness statement. "What was the correction"? I hear you ask... He wanted to change Alan Bates to Sir Alan Bates .

I'm watching Ron Warmington (Second Sight lead) testify this afternoon. If you want to see the Post Office (management, culture, structure, processes etc) get destroyed, this is the session to watch.

What planet is George Thomson on "Horizon is very robust and the only scandal is the company failed to properly defend it" Who is George Thomson he's the former leader of the National federation of sub-Postmasters it belies incredulity that a man who should be standing up for postmasters is still defending what is a discredited system and organisation instead of the people he was paid to represent. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cyxxz799vxko

To continue to espouse the same ideals about the Horizon system when it has now been discredited shows someone showing signs of narcissism. This is a man that should never have been anywhere near a position of power as he is clearly self serving.
