FWIW was in my post office yesterday ( still on horizon ) I queried the display on the card reader which said "remove card" before I started the transaction and was told "yes it's a bug in horizon, it's stopped displaying the screen saver", was in another post office today and they had the exact same issue.

I didn’t pay attention at the checkout in my local post office. Is it a national-wide problem or some people can’t be bothered to get it fixed? I can’t imagine those lone person working at those checkout would bother for the screen saver.
Meanwhile, it was unfortunate for all those having to deal with Post Office prosecutions. It seems Post Office top management needs Fujitsu to cover themselves and Fujitsu couldn’t risk whistleblowing at the time.
Who would grant Fujitsu such a contract when they back firing Post Office management?

Patterson confirms that "right from the very start" there were "bugs, errors and defects" with the Horizon software which were "well known to all parties". As an IT bod define the difference between a bug an error and a defect Bug is it doing something wrong or unexpected defect missing functionality ? Error is IMHO the same as a bug I always liked undocumented feature.

I think "corporate liability" was the phrase I was looking for, and I suspect that both Fujitsu and the Post Office could be facing criminal and civil liability at the end of this. I hope so, you can't just knowingly crush people and totally ruin their lives because of your own mistakes. Oh, wait a minute, the FCA can ........

They realy are a star bunch at the post office.
Robert Daily, a former Post Office investigator involved in the criminal investigations is giving evidence. He starts by admiting that during the discussion of his past employment history, he 'erroneously' included his wife's educational achievements instead of his own on his CV when applying for a position in 2008.
"Did you realise this and correct this at the time?" asks inquiry counsel Emma Price.
"No," replies Daily

isn't that fraud, I remember years ago someone being dismissed when it turned out his degree was a second not a first and from a poly not the red brick he claimed I claim my wifes degree in nursing instead of an HND in computer studies which is most likely to get me a job in a hospital. I get a feeling some of these guys are being hung out to dry by POL to deflect from management failings

I get a feeling some of these guys are being hung out to dry by POL to deflect from management failings In later life I was tempted to "transform" my mediocre degree in English and American Studies into a degree in Economics and Accounting, as that would have suited my eventual career path. However honesty got the better of me although it may have lost me a few rungs up the career ladder as well. Might have been better to have had no degree at all than the "wrong" one.

Latest person to give evidence is former PO investigator Raymond Grant. Mr Grant had to be served a legal notice to compel him to attend.
When asked why his witness statement was so short (about 3 pages) he said that walking his dog was one of the activities which cut down the time available to work on the statement.

There is so much that is wrong in here that its difficult to know how to start unpacking it (and yes some of it is already known). Perjury ? Perverting the course of justice ? Failure to disclose ? Conspiracy to do .... Malicious prosecution ? Corporate equivalents of these and other offences ? Any breaches of Director's Fiduciary Duties ? And that's without even starting on potential government ministers actions. Nor commissioning and building a system which allows for remote 3rd party changes to critical financial transactions without approval, and without - it would seem - any audit log/record/marker.

I know, it just gets better and better or rather worse and worse. She sacked him over the phone! Why wasn’t it a face to face meeting with minutes? I don’t know who’s telling porkies but someone who is prepared to sack someone in a phone call doesn’t rate highly with me!

I don’t know who’s telling porkies but someone who is prepared to sack someone in a phone call doesn’t rate highly with me! That appears to be the norm these days, sacking on the phone or even by text or Whatsapp. I know someone who the first she knew was when she arrived at work and the building was locked and in darkness, Another who was told mid shift to send all the staff home and shut the shop. She was also told she had to drive 25 miles each way at her expense to drop keys back to management, She refused ( as management said they couldn't guarantee she would be paid for time she'd worked or the fuel cost ) and 14 months later no-one has collected them but the shop was emptied.
