I know, it just gets better and better or rather worse and worse. She sacked him over the phone! Why wasn’t it a face to face meeting with minutes? I don’t know who’s telling porkies but someone who is prepared to sack someone in a phone call doesn’t rate highly with me! That appears to be the norm these days, sacking on the phone or even by text or Whatsapp. I know someone who the first she knew was when she arrived at work and the building was locked and in darkness, Another who was told mid shift to send all the staff home and shut the shop. She was also told she had to drive 25 miles each way at her expense to drop keys back to management, She refused ( as management said they couldn't guarantee she would be paid for time she'd worked or the fuel cost ) and 14 months later no-one has collected them but the shop was emptied. AIUI, the first Staunton knew was when it was on Sky News. Badenoch was too thick/idle/self-interested to make the phone calls in the right order. Not the first time she's told the media first, AIUI, the only difference is her usual modus operandi is the Wail. Johnson's total personal disregard for the Ministerial Code seems to be official policy now.

I don’t know who’s telling porkies but someone who is prepared to sack someone in a phone call doesn’t rate highly with me! Minutes were publicly released last night. Seems to tally with KB's account of the phone call rather more than his. Not a huge surprise tbh; she chooses her own words with a high degree of accuracy and has a brain the size of a house. I may not always agree with her politics, but her clarity and refusal to accept BS has always impressed me. I assume HS recorded the call himself so will be able to counter any false claims, no problem. Here's the Hansard transcript on the subject from yesterday (scroll to col 474 for debate start): link
And here's the published minutes from the phone call (taken by a department official also on the call):

I doubt the same would have happened if it was the sword bearer PM handling the Post Office scandal. Just my imagination , she has nothing to do with it.

I'll make a perhaps controversial statement. I hope that she is getting some 'pastoral care', or some people are on the watch for its need. Although she volunteered to hand it back, the reality of having it formally removed for 'bringing the honours system into disrepute', on top of everything else being so much in the public arena, could have significant mental impact. Yes a disgrace that the same thoughts weren't applied by a corporate body to those who's lives they destroyed. But regardless.

But regardless. she will also have been impacted by Justin Welby saying she should have been stopped working for the church of England. This is the same Justin Welby who pushed her onto the list to be Archbishop of London

Vennells said: "I am truly sorry for the devastation caused to the sub-postmasters and their families, whose lives were torn apart by being wrongly accused and wrongly prosecuted as a result of the Horizon system," she said.
So nothing to do with her then, and now blames the ‘robust’ Horizon system as being the culprit!!

also some geezer called Wiley has forfeited his honour, apparently. Both because they have bought the honours system into disrepute. Isn't this a bit 'chicken and egg' though ? I mean, I thought it was the politicians that bestow lorry loads of honours to all their chums and brown envelope givers that had bought the system into disrepute.

Freudian slips abound, deliberate or not ?

Wo now the 80 page report that Staunton was waving bit of about, and which MPS have demanded be handed over, will finally be handed over but it's 12 pages not 80, what did they use horizon to count the pages and 12 made 80, maybe he should be prosecuted or forced to pay back the missing 68 pages . news.sky.com/story/post-office-boss-nick-read-given-last-chance-to-submit-80-page-report-on-his-behaviour-to-mps-13087377honestly I can't be the only one who is fed up of the Post Office behaviour in this whole enquiry, constant late disclosure of documents, no disclosure of documents, it's as if they have something to hide

Yep. Just to highlight (within the link above) the full document is available to download at: www.postofficehorizoninquiry.org.uk/evidence/pol00028070-deloittes-bramble-draft-reportJust had a quick skim. A surprisingly detailed report with an interesting interviewee list on p82. Hard to know what the actual status was as IME often a draft only converts to 'final' when accepted by the client... I'm very curious to know how this came out only now!

And not to forget that the £100m that the Post Office spent trying to defend a system they knew to be faulty was tax payers money
