An Army spy operating at the heart of the IRA during the Troubles in Northern Ireland probably cost more lives than he saved, a report has found.
It would have become apparent to the PIRA leadership etc that they had been compromised if large numbers of people they went to interrogate vanished, or their teams were routinely intercepted and eliminated. They would soon have put countermeasures in place ie giving duff information to subsets of people enabling them to identify the source. as such IMHO "stakeKnife" was about as much use as a chocolate teapot

Thing is if someone has been watching Dimbleby and those before him for 50, 60 or 70 years they'll never watch anything else other than the regular channels and papers. There is actually an irony here as so often we see those older folk in Russia being accused of watching "state TV" when that is exactly what our older folk typically do. I suppose its comforting in a way, as it gives them a sense of orientation within the madness that raw news "feeds" can bring. Neither your not I will likely ever convince our fellow generation that its worth looking a little beyond the 6 o'clock news but at least we can open eyes and ears just a little bit more. You're really trying to credibly claim that the Beeb is as much a propaganda outlet as RT or Iran's PressTV? I've recently been accused of being radical as I question some BBC "facts"

Companies like Virgin Media used "temporary" number for making SALES call. The number is not withheld but after a few days, it is not for contacting virgin media customer services.

The latter one there was some doubt about whether that was shared space (not a footpath only) so the cyclist had a right to be there. And it wasn't only verbal there was some debate whether the lady actually pushed the cyclist into the road it was a very close thing if you watch the video. I think there was a bit more of the video (it got a bit graphic and doesn't seem to be readily available now) that made it look more like a push not just a (fairly violent) gesture that frightened the cyclist into falling into the road. It was all well raked over at the time.

Four years for causing injuries to two separate people. Three years for causing death - and, no, the Auriol Grey case is not quite just a case of "tongue waggling". Video here. Doesn't show any physical interaction due to the framing, and stops short of the vehicle impact, but watch the way the cyclist suddenly swerves and falls just as they pass, and tell me it was just words... www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-65645364The jury who found her guilty of manslaughter certainly didn't think it was just words.

Auriol Grey is a killer simples , look at the position she takes up forcing the cyclist to either go into the road or hit the fencing/lamppost.
part of the latest appeal is based on her disability she is partially blind and has autism and cerebral palsy. the autism was only diagnosed after she was jailed, by an expert who was paid by her family.
It seems to me that Autism is played a aa get out of jail card these days
Computer hacking - Autism having a routine that you don't like having disturbed - Autism Stalking - Autism picking up on details ( we used to call that being pedantic ) - Autism taking what people say literally, not understanding sarcasm - Autism
So Elon Musk Autistic, wanting your electricity bill to balance to what your home built system says - Autism picking up that I used "petal" instead of "pedal" - Autism
Ok so on the NHS list of symptoms I have 50% so I guess I'm somewhere on the spectrum.
but does the fact most Americans don't understand sarcasm make the whole US population Autistic
I've just seen part of the interview with Grey, the attitude and demeanour to me shows her as cocky and confident, certainly not as an Autistic person would behave in such a situation ,the Police officer asks her what she said she says "slow down" the officer then says "there's sound on that CCTV" and plays it with the sound and clearly she says "get off the XXXX pavement" at the point the video stops I'm convinced she pushes Celia Ward. For me an aggravating factor is that she carries on as if nothing has happened and goes shopping for graceries

part of the latest appeal is based on her disability she is partially blind and has autism and cerebral palsy Her sight appears to be good enough to see the approaching cyclist from a distance. Her CP appears to be mild enough to be walking at a reasonable pace without any aids. Let's see what happens at the appeal... She was convicted in March 2023, and an appeal against the sentence was denied in May 2023. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-65645364This appeal is against the conviction itself.

For me an aggravating factor is that she carries on as if nothing has happened and goes shopping for graceries Oh dear! As the father of my 48 year old daughter, who has been officially diagnosed as autistic since she was 19, I find your post disappointing and offensive. Not all autistics are the same, hence "the spectrum". However, very many exhibit particular traits which may well apply in this case. They have little idea of the effect of that their own actions, or even what they say, might have on others. They can also appear cockey and confident when confronted, which seems to be a defence mechanism developed over years of having to cope with their disability. I can vouch for those traits, having learnt to make allowances with my daughter; but I still don't always get it right after nearly 30 years. But that doesn't mean that the jury in this case wasn't right at the time, in the light of the evidence presented. Maybe; maybe not.

devonladI apologise if my post upset you. I know several people on the spectrum, and they are all very unsure of themselves in unusual situations and they wouldn't portray as she does, but people are different, certainly those I know wouldn't be confrontational, again probably because they are unsure.

Thames water shareholders saying they won't let the company invest in fixing issues unless the company can raise bills. Lets get this right shareholders have been getting dividends etc for years whilst the company underinvested to pay those dividends, now they want the customer to pay, presumably so they can keep on raking in the dividends. www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-68682198can you see this happening in another business KeithCo makes computer chips, and doesn't upgrade equipment then when it is forced to as the machinery won't make the latest models says we need to increase cost to customer, investing in your business is as important as paying dividends.

Its a regulated industry, for what is a natural monopoly. So ultimately the fact they have been able to do what they have been doing is a complete failure of the regulatory framework/regulator. When I read the article this morning, I noted they are also insisting on a special 'reduced level' fine framework for when they are in breach. You couldn't make this **** up. The regulatory framework has clearly been too easy/loose allowing for private equity debt heavy buyouts from which they can rake off massive dividends over the years until they find they can't actually pay off their debt anymore.
