...she went without insurance because she didn't think she could get cover... You'd think that'd be a hint, wouldn't you? Well I would but ...

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cljjwg5dw34ono not the students using foodbanks </Rant> it's this "Nigeria is currently experiencing its worst economic crisis in a generation, with the value of the naira depreciating by more than 200% against the dollar in the past 12 months." if an asset loses value it can't devalue more than 100%, well technically I suppose if it was worth £100 and you have to pay someone £10 to scrap it ... I guess lazy journalism if the US dollar Triples in Value against the Naira the the Dollar has gone up 200% so at the start $100 = 100 Naira at the end $100 = 300 Naira the dollar has gone up 200% the Naira has fallen 66% not 200% </end rant >

Argos goods.
Not sure if this has been looked by some investigative journalists. So many brands sold in Argos just manufactured under the license of some well known western brands but manufactured in the “world factory” in the East.
Argos must have consulted with some legal firms selling goods from the East as goods made under the impression by the “West”. Delonghi, Spear and Jacksons, Instead of selling under the brands like ZXX

We've been through 2 delonghi bean to cup machines and I definitely wouldn't buy from that brand again. Possibly consistent with your observation. Think you need to spend well over a grand if not 3 to get something that works well and lasts a lifetime.

Are you suggesting that if you buy a <Brand X> product from Argos, it'll be somehow inherently inferior to the same product bought from another retailer? And that this is entirely down to Argos (who, let's not forget, are part of Sainsbury) somehow rebranding generic Chinese rubbish as "legit" mainstream brand products? Lots of brands outsource and offshore production, and have for years. I have a Stihl petrol strimmer, bought new from a reputable local supplier ten years ago, made in China.

May I suggest most everything moderately durable that you have is made in China ?

Delonghi dont show it on their website, only sold in Argos and the packaging and some parts of the product itself said Argos and yes they are inferior, i need to replace one I bought two years ago. I didn’t realise it is manufactured under license

Delonghi dont show it on their website, only sold in Argos Ah. Retailer-specific models, usually with a very minor difference, so that you can't "price-compare"...

Often true, but not in this case: link "De'Longhi microwaves are sold by Argos, who are the manufacturer, importer and supplier of this product. Sole responsibility and liabilities for the microwave lie with Argos."Poor show for DeLonghi to be completely denying all responsibility for products they lend their name to. Most DeLonghi products are designed by DeLonghi in Italy but made in one of their overseas factories in China or Romania. The microwaves might be neither, so may not be subject to the same quality control in either design or manufacture. Spear & Jackson are another case in point. I just yesterday bought a strimmer and remember seeing some Spear & Jackson branded ones on Argos' website. You won't find any strimmers on Spear & Jackson's website, but you will find a page dedicated to "licensing partners", one of which is Argos link

My new purchase. Of course the Philips branding was what made me choose it. A certain guarantee of quality. But on the paper instruction booklet inside, Philips Headphones 4000 SeriesWelcome to Philips!Small print:-Philips and Philips Shield Emblem are used under license. This item has been manufactured by and is sold under the responsibility if MMD Hong Kong Holding Limited who is the warrantor in relation to this product.

[/b][/i][ well, the holding company is probably just a “gateway” with a mail box facility to export goods from the “world factory” I saw too many sellers on the bay market using “gateway” address in the special region rather the real ones from mainland.

You hear terrible tales from third world countries where life appears to mean so little.
A Kenyan magistrate was shot dead in court by a policemen because she had cancelled his wife's bail due to the woman absconding. The policeman was subsequently shot dead by other officers following the attack.
