Well, pretty sure some reported then the cloudstrike update problem is considered “fixed”, chaos continues.
No problemo, life goes on as usual. 🤣
We are living a world full of chaos anyway. Certainly it doesn’t affect lifestyle living in remote area, no cash machines within 5km. I got that.

The fix is to reboot into safe mode I find it impossible to get into safe mode these days unless I'm already within Windows. The old OS's used to have a menu option you could break into and select safe mode whilst booting. Currently 3 failed boot attempts brings up a recovery option but from memory, safe mode is not an option there. I thought I knew how to get into Safe Mode in Windows 10 but it wasn't where I thought it was.
And Dr G led me straight up the wrong path!
Let me check my log book for a previous crash and I will test and let you know!

Edited to add:
Hold down the shift key. Click on Restart from the Start button. Troubleshoot Advanced Start-up Settings Restart Option 4 (Safe Mode)
But there be dragons here...

So basically, Cloudstrike customers hasn’t been briefed the risk of any boot disaster like this scale and no one else has thought of any contingency plan for disaster like this. This is only 1% of windows machines affected. How would we live with 80% of windows machines down at the same time? It's a very different situation if there's a widespread Windows-internal issue, rather than an interaction between third-party and Windows. This ONLY affects a subset of large corporates. If the workstation fix was any more involved than the safeboot-delete-reboot, they'd just re-image those desktops back to a clean image. Takes minutes per machine. Obvs, widespread consumer issues would have much more impact, especially data loss, but each of those wouldn't have the knock-on impact to trade. A lot of modern machines now have Bitlocker installed which encrypts the hard disk. In order to boot the machine and make any changes, you need access to the Bitlocker key.
My understanding is that this can either be a USB stick for that machine (created during the original installation) or by visiting the Bitlocker unlocking website with the account details.
If you cannot do that, the time honoured method is the yellow sticky on the monitor...
I no longer deal with things like this so that information has been gleaned from various places!
And I would not install Bitlocker on anything other than a laptop that was leaving the house.

except the affected machines won't boot so you can't open windows to use start etc

Sorry, my post was about accessing Safe Mode and I assumed that Windows was working.
Windows has another option when it all goes wrong. As it does...
The problem machines crash because there is a .sys file on there that upsets the boot sequence. Thank you, Crowdstrike.
The fix is to delete that file.
But you have to gain access to the disk in Safe Mode which, on a well protected business machine, is difficult.
The IT geek has to physically access the machine and fight their way through Bitlocker.
Restart the machine.
During the boot sequence, switch off. Repeat twice.
Windows will start in Troubleshooter mode.
Select Safe Mode.
Access the disk and delete the file. Assuming administrative rights are available, obvs.
Restart.
If it goes well, you are on-line and all is good...
There will be a lot of tired and harassed IT geeks out there this morning.

Select Safe Mode. And that is what I have never found. The option for Safe Mode just wasn't there.

Charlotte Dujardin " this isn't the way I behave" blah blah "it was an error of judgement"
the point is you took a whip to a horse, perhaps the error was you didn't make sure no one filmed it, if its not the way you behave why the hell would you even have a whip
cynical moi ?

Obviously the complainant is big on animal welfare ... took them 4 years (or 2 & half as contradictory reports) to decide her actions needed to be reported, just prior to her going for a record Olympic medal. Cynical ... moi? (Only person to win three individual riding golds in same event- yep Dutch) (Not condoning her actions in anyway)

the CQC what the hell, Hospital inspector who has never been on a hospital ward, Care Home inspector never met anyone with dementia www.gov.uk/government/news/government-acts-after-report-highlights-failings-at-regulatorreading that it (CQC) is clearly failing and needs a wholesale clear out from the top down. Many of the findings fit with what I've been told by family members, for example inspectors meeting senior executives from the hospital and no-one else so they only have a view from management side, or staff being briefed on what to say and wards having far higher than normal staffing levels during visits.

I read the article in The Times first thing this morning. Their summary was somewhat 'shocking'.

So the BBC propaganda division decided to run this anti-russia story today. Why don't they also attack the dozens of other countries that have strict laws on gay and trans rights? There are places far more strict than Russia where as I recall being gay is still legal (though frowned upon by most of society as it is in Ukraine). What is not allowed is portraying it as normal to under age kids. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cl7yk2l925xo

What is not allowed is portraying it as normal to under age kids. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cl7yk2l925xo1. They don't attack, they report. Including op-ed style pieces. 2. With that clarification, the answer is: 'they do'. I've read them. Frequently. Over many years. 3. The existence of one article with a focus on one particular country (or person or place etc) is not evidence of the absence of other articles on other countries/people/places. Perhaps it's just possible that the joyful apparent co-joining of two of your personally favourite subject matters - the BBC being a biased, ultra liberal organ of the state*, and LGBT rights - has clouded your objective judgement ? Just one hypothesis to try and explain factual and logical oversights in the post. Others are available. *even when the state is being run by anything other than ultra liberal government of the day.
