Thanks ribsThe source of his quotes yesterday was www.reddit.com/r/UKPersonalFinance/comments/3mbmql/from_yesterdays_evening_standard_is_a_p2p_lender/Echoing registerme from Friday cautioning "anybody considering speculating about [who] it [is] to be very careful" and ribs a short while ago that the fraud allegatons could be complete lies. Whilst that link does contain random p2p platform names, I think it safe to assume they are just that ... random. I have decided that on balance publishing the source of ribs quote is justified given google was unable to pick up the quotes, and it is better for the p2p sector that such information is readily referencable. My apologies in advance to anyone that disagrees.

Regardless of the credibility or otherwise of the specific claims, it's always been a concern of mine that there may be a fraudulent platform or two out there. There are lots of possible frauds, from straightforward theft or fake loans at one end of the spectrum, to teeming and lading. I'd not be surprised if an initally honest platform, running out of cash, had been tempted down the latter path.

"Truth in Engineering" is the US version of the Vorsprung... slogan. Irony in Marketing. Let's hope that's not a 'cast iron' rule in business.

I wonder whether (names of firms and some details of an individual removed) and might be a source for the ES story or the Reddit poster? Bonus points if the individual has been involved in (names of firms and some details of an individual removed)
Note that while I think I have reason to be curious about this, I don't think that any of the firms mentioned is the subject of the story.

A few pieces from the membership conditions of the P2PFA. " 4.5 Each Member agrees as a condition of membership to: ... (b) work to promote the positive reputation of the Association and the wider Peer - to - Peer Finance sector; (c) agree not to undertake any activities that undermine the sector or bring the sector into disrepute;... 7.2 If a potential breach of the Rules or Operating Principles is drawn to the attention of the Association by a member of the public, or a Member, the Chair may, having consulted the Independent Director, instigate an inquiry..." I would be interested in the views of the P2PFA and its members as to whether the Reddit account activity or leaking the story to the ES about an ongoing and non-public FCA investigation would be in compliance with the rules of the P2PFA if carried out by a P2PFA member, whether carried out directly by employees of the firm or by current or former PR persons or agencies employed by them. Note that while I am interested in the views of those mentioned, this post should not be taken as suggesting that any specific member of the P2PFA has breached its rules because I do not have such knowledge of a breach of the rules.

Note that while I think I have reason to be curious about this, I don't think that any of the firms mentioned is the subject of the story. Well I'm 45, never heard of C****** and have a general distrust of PR. And no RateSetter employee in his right mind would want to spread negativity about P2P lending, especially a fan like myself. So the detective in me finds myself innocent. Kevin.

I suspect the Reddit poster's profile and/or previous posts contains all the information james posted above.

The bloke, as james said, has posted a lot of things on reedit that aren't all about P2P westonkevRS . Looks like we may have a culprit then! *sharpens pitchfork*

However your description could be considered slightly libellous, as it does by random match an ex-employee. So unless you've got very good reason to suspect someone I recommend you think twice about such posts. If you give me a few minutes I'll consider whether I wish to modify my past posts here in light of your post. I think I know who james is referring to. But james must have been pretty thorough on reading the "Inertia Kid" reddit posts to have garnered such info. But I guess it's possible, not having trawled though them myself. I read and saved all moderately recent posts by that Reddit poster. I emphasise that I have no knowledge of any facts that would demonstrate that RateSetter or you had any involvement in the ES story or the Reddit posts. The bloke, as james said, has posted a lot of things on reedit that aren't all about P2P westonkevRS . Looks like we may have a culprit then! *sharpens pitchfork* Lets keep the pitchforks out of this. There are entirely proper bodies that can do a proper investigation and determine whether anyone did anything that they shouldn't have done.

But do you like wrestling? Just to emphasise: at no time did I think that Westonkev was the Reddit person and I do not think so now.

I recommend you think twice about such posts. Please let me know if I've left anything public that causes you concern or that you think could cause the person you were thinking of concern.
