Thanks adrianc, that is much more sensible than I was fearing to be the case. I wonder whether the aggregating gets done (within one account) for interest calculation too ? If not, then I'd be better off selling myself lots of 'uninteresting' shrapnel and buying it back as a rational sized part, which might actually rack up some interest over the course of a year. Need a bot to do that (x number of sales and one purchase, before anyone else leapt in) of course. 8>.

Agree Darkgen - I am one of those folk who is looking to reduce my SS holding purely and simply because the SM 'appears' to have bots. SS have assured us that they are monitoring the SM for bots (and I do believe them) ... but I also believe that a preemptive zero tolerance anti-bot statement in the T&C's is critical to keep loyal investors onside. Manxman: SS have known about the bots for months but have chosen not to act. Their only concern is getting the loans shifted, whether to the cretins who write bots or to decent players like you and me. If they saw it as a problem they would have stamped it out straight away.

The first bot writer was arguably 'unwise', but I doubt they were a cretin. Subsequent bot writers are just fighting fire with fire, and none of them (including me) are cretins either. If SS don't fix it I guess next step is to post the appropriate code so everyone can play (if they want to)...

I'm sure the vast majority of SS lenders use much stronger terms to describe people who boast about and use bots.

They've just put a tick box up on purchases to say that you aren't a robot - but I still didn't get it!

They've just put a tick box up on purchases to say that you aren't a robot - but I still didn't get it! No one did. There are no transactions in the Investor Activity for that loan. Probably a test amount done by SS, to see what bots are about. Will we be seeing warnings heading for all those smug bot makers?.

I understand that there is already (non-human) technology available that can handle various types of captcha with fairly high percentages of success, so give it time...

Wouldn't they need to do something more sophisticated than simply ticking a box - I imagine any dumb bot can do that?

It probably doesn't need to be too much more sophisticated, since the benefits of bot use on SS are quite small (compared to eg the stock market, or 'last minute bid and flip' on FC), so the incentive to develop a smart one which can get around even simple prevention is not there. Would be good if they'd amend their T&Cs though, so their actions align with the stated intent.

Ah, so there are humans that will buy a 1p loan part then. Weird.

Considering it was people like you who caused all this in the first place.
