I can't get into the official FC forum today, I have tried two browsers and they are both issuing heavy warnings about invalid Security certificates. Is anyone else having this problem?

Yes, as expected they broke it. Even if you skip past the dud security certificate, you get to a 404 (can't even find it under the bed) error. Typical.

It sometimes seems they test nothing! - although to be fair to FC the reliability of the main site has improved greatly over the past few months.

You are correct there is mention on the help page - I wasn't aware until your comment that there was a help page! In any event I await the new forum with interest.

... In any event I await the new forum with interest. If they had any sense they'd link to this forum and interact with it. It certainly does no harm to other p2p companies and they appear to benefit from the independent commentary. This is the best place for Facilitating Communication. John

And the fact that they used to, and then prohibited their staff from engaging here, tells you what? Nothing good in my book .

Personally I think they are wise not to become involved here and I prefer a space where the operator is not. FC are regulated by the FCA, and at least all that they put on their board can be retained by them and can be produced and answered for if there is ever a regulatory need for it. All they post there is controlled and monitored to check compliance with policy and regulation. Also all they say there is available to all lenders, borrowers and other parties and all in one place - on their site. Their communications are generally with all who have an interest, rather than partial as it would be here, for example, all lenders, lenders holding a particular loan, individual lenders about their account or 'membership'. If they allowed their people to post here on behalf of FC to an undefined group there are risks attached that I think a professional communications manager would try to avoid. This is not to endorse the effectiveness of Faulty Communications' site, just that I like the fact that this is ours with independent moderation. FC have to monitor this site anyway, they need to know what is being said about FC. Ears to the ground etc.

I prefer ours, moderately independently too, however that does not preclude FC from posting here (after having duly considered what they are saying), as many of the other P2P companies are happy to .. however I think 'control freak' is rather close to the mark, and if they can't completely control it they don't want to play. Not that they are very good at answering issues raised over on their own forum either, so I doubt they'll be totally distraught that they have broken it (again) .. very few of their 40k+ lenders even bothered to register.

If you ignore that they've got the security certificates wrong, the new forum now appears to be working, at least to the point of bringing up the front page.

It actually brings up the right threads and posts, and even seems to have my correct avatar, so they just need to fix the security certificate so a few more folks can try it, without having to jump through firewall hoops.

What is the point of the FC forum? It seems to have few members, fewer contributors, impenetrable structure, unfriendly interface, poor search and no reliable announcement facility. Fumbling Communicators don't even want you to ask them questions on it: when I recently asked a question, then pointed out via the Contact Form that they hadn't answered it, they replied 'We do monitor the forums [sic; why plural?!] but generally for direct questions to FC it is usually best to contact us here. We apologise for your query not being answered on the forum.'

They would have liked to keep all forum activity under FC control - when they bought and closed the old independent forum. But they clearly failed in that. This is the meaningful FC forum, and the FC one will only ever become significant if this one is lost again.

Their forum revision (last week) was supposed to address the system failings of their (second generation) forum (impossible to search, lousy recent activity information, avatars broken, etc etc), I don't know whether it does, or whether the PM facility will remain nobbled, and whether FC will continue top mostly use it as a marketing channel rather than a generic Q&A mechanism. We shall see.
update:
Well the security certificate error is now fixed, but the forum is 'down for maintenance' (503 error) and has been for a day or more. Watching it get fixed, or not, is the most exciting part of the FC experience right now. 8>.
