What kind of inappropriate are you referring to? Sorry, I could have been clearer. What I meant was that having been asked to select RVs, for instance, when I clicked on a RV photo it was replaced -- sometimes with another RV photo and sometimes with something else. Eventually, all the RVs had disappeared and there was nothing 'appropriate' -- i.e. no RVs -- left to click on. That's when I decided to click on Verify and Google ticked the 'I am not a robot' box and let me proceed. (By then, of course, there was no reason to proceed because there was nothing left to buy. ) HTH

adrianc highlandtiger: I have moderated your posts / re-tweets to remove the acronyms. Not really appropriate for this board, and some may rightly take offense. And no, that is not a request to inline spell out the acronym instead.

I'm sure I've read about this somewhere bu cannot find the correct thread. SS think I'm a bot as I'm getting the dreaded shop front/street sign imagess that won't be accepted even though I've only bought about £100 worthof units in 2 loans this afternoon. All of a sudden the SM stopped working for me?!

That's only phase 1 .. then you get the water images where every time you click one you get a replacement which may/may not also need clicking. Seriously tedious. even for a bot.

You are not guaranteed a new IP address by rebooting your router - depends on the policies and procedures of your ISP (however most ISPs will assign you a new one if you specifically ask). It's also not clear whether recaptcha uses IP address as a major (or indeed any) determinant of whether you are a robot (compared to other stuff like your session, cookies, user ID, website, mouse activity, and sundry other bits of stuff) .. I expect it is in there, but it might not be enough to solve it.

Resetting a router may not get you a new IP address, but switching off for half an hour usually will.
Google doesn't see your User ID - that would be a MAJOR security issue. Nor do they see your SS session ID, which would be an even BIGGER issue. Cookies are easily cleared, but in my experience, you will often need to restart your browser to achieve the desired effect (I don't know why though).
It might be worth trying private browsing. I gave it a quick go and gave up because it seemed to be worse, but experiences may differ. TOR might also be worth playing with, but when I tried it out for general browsing about a year ago, I gave up, because nothing worked properly!
I also had a brief look at the javascript part of the reCaptcha system. Mouse events certainly feature in the code, but in what way, I cannot say. Personally, I don't think it's major factor. What is a factor is how often you try, specifically, I find that when I take a day off, I'm more successful - and it's not simply down to being less stressed.

No, google doesn't get your SS session ID, but there are a slew of SIDs associated with recaptcha which are sent in cookies, along with the SS recaptcha key (so Google know what you were trying to do) plus there is all the google analytics stuff and whatever else they can glean. Restarting the browser certainly helps. Restarting the router, even after a 24 hour delay, won't help with my particular ISP, but will get youa new IS address with many others. Coming back 24 hours later seems to work, unless you have blocked google analytics and have some sorts of ad blocking in place, in which case you don't always get back to free pass. p.s. www.hashemian.com/whoami/is handy for seeing whether your IP address has changed or not.

Who's your ISP? Most of the market is Virgin or BT (albeit under various brands).
EE Osprey, or another mobile operator, maybe?

Surfanytime .. rebranded BT, with actual UK support folks .. however it operates a mostly fixed IP policy. ('Really fixed', if you ask/want/need it as some businesses do)
