I'll be living in LOS myself at the end of October. Can live well for a lot less than the UK. I've been racking my old brain to try and work out where/what LOS is. Google has not helped me. Please can someone put me out of my misery? TIA LW Thank you CD, I had initially thought Thailand as Baht was mentioned but could not get from there to LOS I'm a happy bunny now! LW

Imported beer is expensive. I can eat in an all you eat buffet for 150 baht . Go to any tourist trap any where in the world and you will pay top price. I live about 30 minutes from Bangkok. So not in the sticks where it is even cheaper. So going back to the original question posed. I can live of my interest from SS.

To answer the op, not mega interest but I am funding my lifestyle from investment. Most of that income comes from btl property, with a diversification into p2p primarily to spread risk and eventually pay of the interest only property borrowings.
As capital is at risk, you would be wise to be spread over many loans on many platforms, eggs and baskets and all that. Sadly they don't all pay 12%.
You can get 3-5% in several current accounts in the uk!

I had never heard of this allowance! When I did my online tax return last year AFAIK it didn't appear. So this year - my paltry pension will be £6.5K but I expect to receive circa £20K P2P interest so sounds like I might only be liable for tax on about £9-£10K on income? Time to talk to my (yet to be appointed) accountant!

Time to talk to my (yet to be appointed) accountant! The online tax return takes this into account. In 2015/16, I earnt £5k p2p interest and my total taxable income was £10k. I phoned HMRC to check what if anything I had to do and they said that I needed to do an online tax return because I had untaxed interest - which made me slightly nervous. However, just done a draft (waiting on final LC statement) and it shows nothing owed ! FYI 2015/16 limit is £15,600; £10,600 personal allowance + £5,000

Having not been before, we were unsure where to go, so headed for the tourist area of patong beach (phucket) , TBH we were told many times by many Aussies, that phucket was very expensive compared to most other areas of thailand.
