Voted no. I suspect he wouldn't win a general election but I do think he has earned the right to fight one... When he loses then get rid. If they successfully get rid of him before the next election and lose anyway, the debate in the Labour party will continue indefinitely. The country deserves an effective opposition.

No, we don't want someone credible to pounce, David Bananaband for example.

I think we should pay a one off membership fee to join the party so that we can vote for Corbyn and ensure that Labour are out of power until 2025 at least.
Incidentally his brother Piers supported Leave in the referendum but declined to be interviewed by ITN at the Leave “party” after the vote.

I know the rumor mill is currently in overdrive, but earlier today I heard a suggestion that David Miliband was being parachuted into Jo Cox's seat so he could be the savior of the labour party.
Just hope he's had that nasty gash in his jacket repaired

Just hope he's had that nasty gash in his jacket repaired He’s rather pucker for Batley & Spen. If the suggestion is correct, I hope that he doesn’t make the same mistake as Peter Mandelson when he was buying supper at a chippie in his former Hartlepool constituency. He asked for haddock, chips and "some of that guacamole" - mistaking the mushy peas for avocado dip. Still, Miliband is better than one name I’ve seen mentioned as a candidate, the rather dubious Brendan Cox.

I get that you don't like him nor his wife's politics and given the area you definitely know him better than I do. But given he lost his wife very recently I do think you could do with being nicer. But hell what do I know. Not even 40 yet. And clearly wet behind the ears.

Nothing to do with political views, this is why I don’t like him. www.thirdsector.co.uk/save-children-refuses-comment-allegations-against-former-director-policy-brendan-cox/management/article/1370951I suggest you read one comment in particular about the allegations, seeing that it wasn’t moderated, I can only assume, no smoke without fire. The three main parties are not contesting the seat therefore whoever Labour selects will walk straight into Westminster and I fail to see why it should be Cox. If he was to be successful it would be unbelievable hypocrisy by Labour and particularly Harriet Harman given her views on women’s rights and issues.

I don't think he should resign but he should immediately call a leadership contest and run in it. Government need to be held to account like never before and both parties are a complete shambles right now - 2 leadership contests followed by a GE is the only sensible course - followed by a new negotiation with EU followed by a referendum on terms of a deal negotiated or not negotiated as the case may be

I don't think there will be any achievement. We would just get to KNOW what tariffs etc would be imposed, and whether the country can afford to do it. Right now, no one has a clue ...

Now your saying MPs shouldnt decide on Jezza but ir should be a public (ie Labour members) vote. Inconsistency a MP would be proud of BoJo has reportedly said he wouldnt call a General Election as he would have mandate to negotiate from referendum result. Would still of course have to find a way to call a General Election without a No Confidence vote (not a good basis to win an election) or MPs voting themselves out of office - both seem unlikely - particularly in the case of Labour MPs many of whom might find they dont get to stand again if Momentum gets its way or would have to stand as independents/new Labour if party splits.
