Aargh. Going to be a long night. The just 34 seats for SNP looks unusually low. If true either some went to non-Tories, or the Tories must have taken a bit of a hammering elsewhere (eg North or Wales).

Aargh. Going to be a long night. Irrespective if you are remain or leave, this is a bad result for Brexit... the inability to have clarity for the negotiations which start in a handful of days would be a disaster. Im going for another coffee.

A narrow majority (either way)or hung parliament / minority govt would be a total catastrophe for the country given what we face.

A narrow majority (either way)or hung parliament / minority govt would be a total catastrophe for the country given what we face. Totally agree, when I predicted TM to step down before 2022 I didn't mean before 9pm tonight! Thank goodness for Ruth Davidson's dismantling of the SNP & the 10 DUP MP's which might just be enough to struggle on for a few months
The only crumbs of comfort I can find from the last few hours is remembering the faces of Nick Clegg, Alec Salmond & Angus Robertson. We may have to use the Brexit dividend to subsidise our farmers to plant fields full of magic money trees as clearly they must exist because vast swathes of the population have just voted for them. Never underestimate the attractiveness of offering the voters something for nothing, imagine what JC could have achieved without Diane Abbott.

I put my money where my mouth is and got around 8:1 on there being any result other than a Tory majority. Looks like you may be one of a small handful of winners from last night's result. Congratulations - I hope you put enough on to cover the financial impact of this next period of instability.

It's difficult to see where this takes us next, other than (yet another) period of uncertainty of course, but I find the result fascinating. This feels like a young person's revolt against a) being sidelined vs the needs of pensioners for so very long and b) hard Brexit. I'll be really interested to see the demographics of the vote as we had with Brexit to see if that actually is the case.
Fascinating as it may be, I do think the UK appears a bit ridiculous at the moment. At least we have Donald to steal away the headlines with <whatever next idiocy he performs tomorrow>
I'll also add by fascinating I don't necessarily mean 'good'. I just wish we could cancel the whole political year and go back to where we were. I wonder how David Cameron really feels about what he did?
Edit: Financially, in the short-term my bet is little impact as Europe and the world already see us a bit confused and this just reaffirms this. In the long-term, I'd really rather we focus on things that actually matter and need lots of attention - e.g.. healthcare, social care, pensions than burning endless money on this nonsense.

It's difficult to see where this takes us next, If the Cons stay on there will be big spending in Ulster followed by another election later this year ............ Oh joy!

I think it may be much closer to May losing her majority than many believe for the following reason. What the pollsters struggle to get right is the correction/weighting applied to the likelihood of each member in their sample actually going out to vote. Traditionally, it has been assumed that the older generation are more likely to vote and that the young basically care about it a lot less (in general terms of course). This time, I suspect that may not be the case since I think a lot of the young are very motivated (if anecdotal evidence from social media etc is to be believed) so I think this time round the results will be more in Labour's favour than is currently thought now. I put my money where my mouth is and got around 8:1 on there being any result other than a Tory majority. Well done in deed, enjoy your winnings I got it wrong last week when I said TM shot herself in the foot for not taking part in the TV mass debate........she shot herself in both feet!!!!

Not the result I was personally hoping for, but every cloud has plenty of silver linings to it & I think this one does too. Always respect the vote, be honest, listen to the electorate & look for the opportunities - there's always a way. That for me now though is bed.

For the first time ever, I went into the polling booth last night unsure of how I was going to vote. In the end, I could not bring myself to vote for TM - her stilted, wooden, robotic approach throughout the campaign confirmed to me that she did not have the substance or charisma of a leader in these difficult times. What to do? Spoiling the ballot paper was an option but that seemed like abdicating responsibility. In the end I voted UKIP, not for any regard for the candidate or the leader, but merely to reinforce my Brexit vote last year.
I was quite pissed off with the Cons, UKIP, Greens and Libs who could not even be bothered to send me a leaflet with the name of their candidate, some personal details and their own priorities. What a strange election.

Prediction: Brexit negotiations will be suspended, in agreement with the EU. There will be another election, and the Tories are not going to manage a resurgence. The Labour government will be so committed to their domestic legislative programme that they will not be interested in reactivating the Brexit process. Interest in Brexit will wither away.

Prediction: Brexit negotiations will be suspended, in agreement with the EU. The sensible way forward is to say "Hey, guys, how about we go for an interim period of EEA membership? Five years, say, and we'll talk when we've figured out our end?"

Five years, say, and we'll talk when we've figured out our end?" That's a great idea, Adrian. Let's carry on paying a net £8 billion into the EU coffers so that we can continue to have a £60 billion trade deficit with the EU. I think some of us may have already figured it out our end
