16% is quite tempting but I've decided against going the whole hog. I think this little piggy will go to the secondary market in 4.5 months time for a decent (and tax free) return. Anything non-property has been fairly easy to sell recently. Tim 16%?? There's a 4% bonus for holding it to term. Tim

I don't have that kind of cash, but if I did I wouldn't risk it on a *painting that has a history that may put off potential art buyers. Tim *pastel

I mentioned this on the Chagall painting (from same VR company): "Cxxxx Art Advisory gives no guarantee in the valuation in respect of the object's origin, provenance, attribution, condition, date, age or authenticity..."
This VR has no such caveats and is very clear on what it's worth. Should this turn out to be wrong I wonder how this would be readdressed.

Someone has put £100k on it. I hope they don't retrospectively pop back and read this thread!

Thanks for the DD, I have removed my bid. How can you remove your bid? I thought is was final? If the loan hasn't yet been activated, you can phone up and ask. At least that's what I did once. I don't think FS are under any obligation to cancel your bid, but if you ask nicely they may do it for you.

But this 'sketch' just looks a bit weird to me.

FS have now posted an update on the loan to "address" the concerns raised here...
"We have received a number of questions concerning media reports that the authenticity of some of Francis Bacon’s pieces are disputed. We have spoken with the valuer on this subject who has pointed out the following:
1. This piece was never part of the disputed collection
2. This piece is a pastel whereas the disputed pieces have all been prints.
3. This piece was part of a wider collection, parts of which were subsequently sold to T** T*** G******
4. The piece was never exhibited at T** H****** G****** and should therefore not be associated with the article in the Daily Telegraph. The valuer apologises for this error in the valuation report.
5. In the valuer’s opinion, this piece is completely genuine, the signature being “spot on”."
...is anyone reassured by this?

Now, when you look at the valuation report, it's extremely light and it appears that the only comment backing up the valuation is linked to that gallery. So, to answer your question, no. On a side note, I would strongly advise FS to change valuer, because to make a mistake on such a short document is simply ridiculous.
