The USA tried universal income in a small town, it was generally successful, the data was then "corrected" so that Nixon was shown that it was a failure. On such science great things are grown. Wales are doing a Universal income trial The only thing is it is only care leavers and at £1,600 a month for 2 years I believe will make the situation worse not better. They won't be entitled to benefits, which will mean no "on benefits Pension credit towards state pension" Every penny they earn will be taxed at 20% After 2 years those that are not working will drop onto UC which is less than £400. I'm not sure many will cope with such a drastic change

The foreward to Mordaunt's book was written by Bill Gates so that should do wonders for the conspiracy theories, and the praise from Tony Blair will help too.

This kind of betting opportunity doesn't arise too often, but last night Betfair Exchange was offering 260 (259/1) on Suella Braverman. That's a real value bet with 6 runners, so I grabbed two quid's worth. The odds fluctuated and a few minutes later I was able to lay off the same £2 on her at 210. So if she wins I win £100 and if she loses I'm all square. Happy with that. She must be a real outsider though, because you can get 500/1 on her this morning. I've never heard of her beore the leadership campaign started. They say she's a rising star and one for the future.

Had to laugh when I heard the SNP attack poodle saying the next Tory leader would be to the right of Gengis ( Yes he said Gengis not Ghengis ) Khan.
Most of my continental friends regard Boris as a Liberal and a bit left wing. Most Americans regard the current UK government as on the Left ) We have such Socialist ideas as free NHS treatment, We don't expect our children to salute the flag or pledge allegiance ( Some states still do ). The Government runs most Schools, and of course we have that anathema to free thinking right wingers gun control.

SNP have come to an agreement with Putin and will therefore withdraw from the UK/US nuclear deterrent programme. They will also build 100k houses in the Cairngorms just in case Putin changes his mind and Russia set off nuclear bombs in the Atlantic with a resultant Tsunami wiping out everything below 3000 ft. Munro Avenue has already been chosen as the first new street name.

Here we go then. Could be 4 women and a man with an ethnic background left? That only leaves a racist or sexist outcome for the next PM.

So Tugendhat is still in there, along with Sunak, Mordaunt, Truss, Badenoch. But he's at the back of the pack, and his votes have gone down since the first round. He's next out, barring something very odd indeed happening. I suspect he's surprised to have made it this far. Shame, he seemed the sanest of the lot. Sunak and Mordaunt are moving away from the others, but Badenoch's a shoe-in for Braverman's far-right-fruitbat vote - albeit not enough to overtake Mordaunt.

Rafael Behr nails it with his first para. "The question of which leader conceals a bigger question: what party? The past three years have been marked by reckless venality and cynical nationalist posturing under a prime minister with no respect for law or institutions. As well as being a recipe for bad government, that is not very conservative in the traditional sense. Boris Johnson’s successor will either continue in that vein or rehabilitate the Tory party that existed before its de facto merger with Nigel Farage’s Brexit party in 2019. The choice is between conservatism in the style of David Cameron or Donald Trump."
Hard to disagree with his last sentence, too. "While hardly the best man for the job, Sunak is at least the one best placed to disappoint the worst of his party."

...but Badenoch's a shoe-in for Braverman's far-right-fruitbat vote Nope, Braverman's support is with Truss. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-62172049So that's it, Badenoch and Tugendhat might as well just save us from the next couple of utterly predictable rounds. Will Mordaunt or Truss be the one to join Sunak in going to the party membership? Could go either way.

Still spitting the dummy over the democratic will of the people. He's so negative, I genuinely wonder if the man has ever found anything positive to say about anyone or anything, ever? Does he blog on the EU's largely pitiful response to Ukraine?

Clipped from your link (a German organisation). Note that the figures are only promises not actual deliveries. "pitiful" sounds reasonable
