I've earned a penny so far,
Actually now a wee bit more, they are giving 100 points (12.5p) as a bonus for each consecutive event that you sign up for, so I'm up to nearly 40p

Saving session 5-7 Tonight
Supplies must be very tight Octopus paying over 70P per kWh at 8:30 this morning and that shoots up to £1.75 at 16:30 and remains above £1 until 18:30, lowest daylight price I can see is 40p at 15:30

Would he good if all bulb customers get to benefit from the electric saving offer along with octopus customers. If there are real savings to be made for flexable usage them I'm all in.

This is one of those days electricity suppliers have nightmares about.
Demand is about as high as it gets. It's calm all over the UK so minimal wind generation, Nuclear power - running flat out, Gas generation - running flat out, Imports - maxed out. Having to fire up the old coal burners just to keep up. Still, it's a sunny day so solar (which is mostly unmetered) is going well so far.
This evening's peak demand will be interesting once it is dark.

Glad to see the two contingency coal power stations have been stood down. However, the non-contingency coal power stations are currently producing 1.3Gw.

I does show that we need a backup for wind and solar, more tidal perhaps.
My Solar Production today is 1.1kW and the sun is about to disappear behind the mountain.

Seems like CO2 output from China is around 30 times what it is here with the US coming in around 14 times. That's actually less than what I thought. Per person Canada and the US are the culprits. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_carbon_dioxide_emissionsI guess we should do our bit but it feels a bit like unilateral nuclear disarmament......

I understand that the solar generation displayed is an unreliable estimate.

Problem for us is that 5-7 period isn't particularly a peak period for us (not like we're knocking off work). Ironically, I've been trying to get our day to day consumption pattern more biased to the 5-7 period so we have a higher benchmark :-)

Seems like CO2 output from China is around 30 times what it is here with the US coming in around 14 times. That's actually less than what I thought. Of course, the population of the US is more than 5x that of the UK, and that of China 20x ours. So the US's per capita emissions (surely the relevant measure) are 3x that of the UK, and the UK's 1.5x that of China... Because, obvs, if we ignored population, small countries could extract the michael mightily whilst big ones were penalised for so much as exhaling. Indeed. Yet, perennially, those worst culprits moan about how unfair it all is, along the lines of...

I does show that we need a backup for wind and solar, more tidal perhaps. Of course we could invest in power storage.
Rather like we invest in petrol storage or methane storage it is possible to store power, either as water, as battery or as H2.
"Oh but that is too expensive!"
everything is too expensive until it becomes the norm, then economies of scale bring the price down.
