Another live session tomorrow 17:30 to 18:30 £2.25 per kWh saved on Octopus nudge for bracknellboy ooh and apparently there is a spot prize of a heat pump or £4K in cash if a heat pump isn't suitable Interesting, £3 via Hugo for this session. All the companies bid an amount which explains some of the difference

If you run washing machine between 12-30 and 15:30 and make a few brews ... I'm not sure if Power Rewards works like that. They just say they compare it to historical data. It's probably in the T & C's somewhere, but who wants to read those?

so you have increased your power usage (and cost)
so you can make a bigger saving when you stop using....
I have a picture of a bridge that might interest you ;-)
Not sure if they all work the same way. OE start at t-4 for 3 hours you total your consumption in those 3 hours then 1/6 of that is your average per 1/2 hour period. lets say you use 6kWh over the 3 hours then your 1/2 hour period target is 1kW. so if you use 0 you get credit for the 1kW on a 1 hour session the maths is 6kWh @ 40p £2.40 return if you use 0 is £2.20 * 2 £4.40 a profit of £2. of course with GCH and no EV I'm very much small fry compared to those with 3 Phase supplies, an EV or 2 and a heat pump etc Picking at the bones of what you have written, I think you have described:
Octopus Energy Smart meter Signed up to the new system System kicks in today @1430hrs Power up immersion heater, washing machine, oven, dishwasher, 3kW electric heater etc. All power off @ 1730hrs Sit in the dark until 1830hrs Back to normal Win prizes...
I can see that this process would move some demand to mid-afternoon (where it might be satisfied by solar) but I cannot see how it will make a lot of difference.
Not unless half the population signs up to it.
An interesting exercise, however.
Cream cakes and tea at your gaff at 1835hrs with your winnings???

If half the population sign up I guess it will not work the new peak time will just move forward. The question if things carry on as at present how low will the uk gas price be in August when the present glut hits very low demand.

I agree especially as a major LNG plant has just started up after a major lay-off:

This methodology looks at up to 10 days of your recent smart meter history, excluding days where a Session has taken place, to calculate your average consumption. I'd think this chosen deliberately to avoid the short term exploitation you describe. .. Or 'with an in-day adjustment for domestic customers' may well just be your 3 hour window. No idea!

it's the IDA that makes the difference, and I normally run off battery in the afternoon, I chose to charge the battery, do Washing, Run dishwasher, and use electric heaters 12:30 to 15:30. does it work I have £54 of points so far ( you have to divide the numbers by 8 ) for context my winter electricity bills are about £35 a month.
