Octopus and most others are running a similar session tomorrow 16:30 to 18:00 at 3200 octopoints ( £4 ) per kWh "saved"
in effect you get back 50% of what you used 12:30 to 15:30 ( less any usage 16:30 to 18:00 ) at £4 kWh
I managed a meagre 10kWh of usage today so will get 3.3 units at £3.30 ( £10 ) back
other people are running at 50-60kWh used if they have EV, immersion Heaters, Heat Pumps etc

Another live session tomorrow 17:30 to 18:30 £2.25 per kWh saved on Octopus nudge for bracknellboy ooh and apparently there is a spot prize of a heat pump or £4K in cash if a heat pump isn't suitable

Another live session tomorrow 17:30 to 18:30 £2.25 per kWh saved on Octopus nudge for bracknellboy ooh and apparently there is a spot prize of a heat pump or £4K in cash if a heat pump isn't suitable Thanks for the nudge Financially, these are not worth the aggro: primarily because our profile means we do not generally fit the normal usage profile. I seem unable to explain to my other half - at least for long enough for it to matter - that we need to switch our usage to peak periods to reset our baseline ready for the sessions. I think the problem may be something to do with hormone changes....Still, I'm reassured that even if it is not financially making any meaningful difference, my account says that we saved 29% on the last session. So we are at least making some form of impact, even if from a financial perspective it was worth approximately 20 pence.... :-) So far we are £3.48 in credit from the saving sessions....this is not a rate of return that I would normally be looking for

so you have increased your power usage (and cost)
so you can make a bigger saving when you stop using....
I have a picture of a bridge that might interest you ;-)

I wonder whether these games are in preparation for the final move to demand pricing in the real world - and all the time?
Are "they" just softening up the population ready for the move?

They are worth opting in even if you don't take any action.
You'll gain if any of the half hour periods uses less energy than normal.

For sure.
It is worth mentioning that we have had demand management for many years now, Economy 7 (the mid 70s I think) was a good example of this in retail. The advent of more data and the change of the country to a post industrial one has drastically moved the daily consumption graph and so demand management has to change.
All good as the climate cannot take all this consumption

Not sure if they all work the same way. OE start at t-4 for 3 hours you total your consumption in those 3 hours then 1/6 of that is your average per 1/2 hour period. lets say you use 6kWh over the 3 hours then your 1/2 hour period target is 1kW. so if you use 0 you get credit for the 1kW on a 1 hour session the maths is 6kWh @ 40p £2.40 return if you use 0 is £2.20 * 2 £4.40 a profit of £2. of course with GCH and no EV I'm very much small fry compared to those with 3 Phase supplies, an EV or 2 and a heat pump etc

I use around 4kw a day, don't have solar power or EV. I got £2.20 for the last grid event. All I did was cook tea after 1830, I still had the telly on and a brew.
Tim
Edit- That's from using the Power Rewards app, not the Octopus scheme.
