BBC News channel showing HoC live, David Lidington saying legally binding changes have been agreed (believe this is an addition to the WA rather than to the WA itself), details and new legal opinion coming tomorrow. Keir Starmer - without seeing the details of the changes - appears to say Labour will still vote it down.

Dont know why everyone is moaning about the complexity of negaotiating Brexit with EU. Seems relatively quick when you consider that it has taken more than 4 years for the EU to decide that people can continue to drink G&Ts. Yes, despite the fact that Tonic no longer contains significant amounts of quinine so has minimal health benefits the EU has finally agreed it can still be called Tonic and that citizens can be trusted to understand that it is not a magical elixir to cure all ails.
However, as yet no determination has been reached on the descriptor 'and Coke' and whether this could confuse those who expect that to come in grams rather than millilitres. Ginger Beer is also said to be under scrutiny due the absence in many cases of alcohol.

10.09 "Barristers: Measures do not let UK end backstop when it chooses
Practising barristers David Anderson, Jason Coppel QC and Sean Aughey share their legal opinion for the People's Vote campaign on the Brexit measures.
They say the measures do not allow the UK to terminate the backstop if negotiations are not satisfactorily concluded, nor do they provide the UK with a right to terminate the backstop at a time of its choosing."
---
09.54 "Barristers 'say measures do not legally alter backstop'
Sky News political correspondent tweets:
lewis_goodall This the legal opinion of several senior barristers. “It is crystal clear that the measures do not alter the fundamental legal effect of the backstop.” If the ERG change their minds it’s about politics, not law."

I am backing Geoffrey Cox to explain the matter in terms that we can all understand. Just trying to remember why this man isn't in charge.

What 'they' are doing a damn good job of is making it feel like the backstop issue is the only real issue of concern with this deal. Even if that aspect were somehow resolved to all's content, it's still a dreadful deal no matter which side of the fence you sit on.

I really don't understand what Theresa May is doing. Is it really that important to 'save face' on her deal that she tries to trick her way through parliament by pretending it's been fixed when the AG advises otherwise?
If she'd changed tack and given a few speeches promoting no deal even if she didn't mean it she could have scared the EU into at least offering a deal that wasn't a total surrender.

Yep. Bat's chance in hell of this being voted through by Parliament. Which I guess means what? Crash out on the 29th? I can't see the EU moving on anything substantive so I find it hard to see a rationale for agreeing to a delay....

Save face, sure but 'save job' is the real truth. Looked at from her perspective, it is a matter of how she will go down in history, a failure or a determined persevering leader. Maybe Geoffrey Cox will be the PM next week! Is it right that the governing party can change leaders without a general election, if the men in grey suits leave the revolver on TM's desk?
