I just checked grid watch. We are not using any coal to make electricity this afternoon, nor oil. gridwatch.co.uk/ have a look, it may have changed when you look. I think you forgot to mention the 45.3% gas. The 17.6% nuclear is environmentally debatable. Renewable - 26.18% right now.

Ironically all these small personal sacrifices are as nothing unless we revive our own heavy manufacturing industries. The carbon produced by transporting and importing cheap foreign product should be 100% reduced. Our own product will provide much needed employment at a higher cost so our consumption will be regulated to need rather than greed. Hopefully our previous industrial experiences will enable us to make a better job of it this time around. Tear stained, short changed, youth can go into the mines and quarries willingly, in the knowledge that their physical and moral strength is enabling their future. Comrades. Back when the UK did manufacturing*, manufacturing involved lots of men in brown coats and hats. Now, it mostly involves talking nicely to the robots doing the actual work. Certainly, in high-labour-cost economies. So you won't be requiring "much needed employment". Not that it's particularly needed, since the UK has pretty damn near full employment currently. * - it still does. 9th largest manufacturing nation in the world, with 11% of the economy's gross value-add, 44% of exports, 70% of business R&D, and 2.6m jobs (8.2% of total jobs). Come again? You are living in cloud cuckoo land. Raw materials? That's why we import them. Some one has sold you the current android story and you swallowed it . By the way your stats on employment are a myth too unless you really believe in zero hours contracts. Walk around the mean streets and count the bodies.

Not sure about numbers but let's guess 1,000 million westeners. Define "western world"... If we're going with "developed world", rather than some geographical oddity, then you're hitting that billion in just three economies. EU - 510m US - 320m Japan - 130m Add 40m for Canada, to complete the G7 Add 150m for Russia, to complete the G8 Taken together, the G20 represents about 65% of the total world population, 4.7bn people. While I would add Australia et al,the idea of pretending that Russia is a first world country is laughable, all my Russian friends compare their economy with their average idea of Africa. G20 only lets the Russians in because they have the bomb and are white. Nasty but true.

As soon as somebody starts refusing to believe the politically-independent official stats, there's absolute zero point in even attempting to have a rational debate, because there's simply nothing left bar meaningless soundbites.

and the GAS comes from ……? Well the gas to the UK mainly comes from Norway. I think you are thinking of the gas supplies to Germany, which is Russian supplied. I have helped install some of those using Western technology. One large industry selling raw mtls does not a western country make.

Yes, but what's your point ?
(2018 figures from some gov website just looked at). 40% (ok 39.9%) of "NEETS" were looking for work and therefore are classified in the unemployed numbers. Of course the other 60% are not, but presumably that means that an awful lot of them are simply at a stage in life when they don't want ot look for work (otherwise presumably at the very least they'd want to be getting what benefits they can by virtue of being available and actively looking).

Having failed to close down Heathrow, I see that Emma Thompson was seen flying back to New York with BA in first class.
Glad to see she's doing her bit for the planet

And when asked if she flies economy to reduce her carbon footprint she replied "I bloody don't..No." Typical.

Maybe the Billions spent so far would have been more productive preparing "For it" and "Attempting to live with it" rather than trying to "Prevent it" ... according to some, there's only 11 years left to save the next generation, unfortunately the African and Asian continents aint listening. edit. and outside of EU/USA RESOURCES .. they are putting nothing into it either.

Personally, I loathe her,but sometimes enjoy the films. The Mary Poppins one was good wasn't it and Tom Hanks as Walt Disney, super....

I have helped install some of those using Western technology. One large industry selling raw mtls does not a western country make. We did employ quite a few setting up the gas fields out of Great Yarmouth (also on the Norske side) . I know at least 11 people who have been permanently unemployed since that faded. My point is that we do not look after our labour force, but chase easy profits worldwide instead of using our own, considerable, resources. Norway protects its labour force. (Yes, I know its circumstances are different.) I do feel very strongly that we should bit the bullet and pay more. Do you not think that the GBP would respond to the reality?)
